1994 Ebony Pearl LSi
Second owner
Purchased: Seattle WA March 2001, 34,000 miles
(original owner bought new 10/17/94, Suburban Buick-Subaru, Pittsburgh, PA.)
Current mileage: 41,800
Dealer repairs: new sunroof mechanism, passenger seat backrest lever: both N/C
Maintained by dealer to the factory standards & schedule

The only out-of-sequence service the car has needed on my watch was last summer, when it blew off a power steering hose and sprayed fluid all over the driveway: dealer charge to repair: $152.47

I also bought new floor mats ($95.13/dealer), had the stress marks and chips taken out of the bumpers & respayed ($635.00/detail shop) and had the door speakers replaced ($271.95/car stereo shop).

Anticipated expense: set of original SVX wheels, to replace the aftermarket wheels that came on the car.

that would be ths SVX. the WReX is getting a blowoff valve and an intake tube, but that's all my wife will let me do. otherwise, it would have a turbo-back exhaust, bigger wheels (the 16"ers look really small on that car for some reason), etc, etc. i'm glad she's here to keep my wallet in check.

Wow, I forgot about these items. Add these to the list above:

Rotors full set 275.00
Seat covers 60.00
Wiring Mod about 6 bucks
PCV Valve -- about 5 bucks
Used TCU -- 200.00
Oil -- I have no idea, several changes worth.
New speakers -- both "Patience" and Evil Twin -- about 200.00
Cost of rental cars while "Patience" was getting her name, About 1,500.00

Notice I included the cost of "Evil Twin" in the "money I've sunk into my SVX." That's because, if I'd never owned the first one, I'd never have wanted a second one.

James, are those yankee or Oz dollars?

Sorry about the incident in the cul de sac. No clue, as I have never had this particular experience.

(Just as a matter of international curiosity, to what are you comparing your fuel consumption? Previous car? Other SVX?)

And your point is . . .?

My SVX. Let's see. I shouldn't include regular maintenance items. But since the dealer wouldn't change spark plugs until just over 100,000 miles (they insisted it didn't need them - I finally insisted that they do it anyway) I should probably subtract around $300 right off the bat.

The rear seal failed in Steamboat, CO last February. That, with the three-day rental was about $300. (A big thank you to Sean Doran for prompt, cheap, and expert work! It took the three days to get the part - it went in in under three hours.)

-$300
+$300
ZERO

I guess other than the price of the car (New, untitled '95 purchased in '97 for $19,100) we've pretty much broke even.

Like I've said before; I'm not worthy of this car. It's a gift from God.

How can you put a dollar value on love ?

You wouldn't put a dollar value on your mate or children why should you even try to do it for your SVX.

As an example, the 10th Anniv. SVX Meet cost 3 years of my life besides the money. But it was worth every minute and every penny.

Spot on...and with 186,000km on it and hard driven k's at that!!

Seasvx, yep...they are AU dollars (so roughly divide by 2 for US) - not really comparing fuel consumption per se save for that its a lot!!!

I know. James knows I was just giving him a little crapola. My car, previous to my SVX was an 89 Suzuki Sidekick convertible. I'm sure the Camry was a bit more comfortable and economical than mine, plus, I had to have a right/front wheel bearing replaced on the Sidekick.

And, when James describes his "Hard Driven Miles" it was because he spent so much time, trying to chase down SVXes. Now THAT will cause you to drive your Camry VERY hard.
