Difference in 92-94 and 95-97 transmission ?

I have heard that the trans is the same for both year ranges however the 95-97 range does not have the same transmission breakdowns.
Does anyone know why the trans for the two years ranges are different.

They use the same tranny for all years. There is a different gear ratio for 94+ models though but 94 will still die. It all depends on how new the trannies are and how abused they were before you got them.

Why don't the 95+ break down, cause they have lower miles on them. I have a 92 with 140k and original tranny that has not missed a beat vs my 94 with a rebuilt that I am starting to save up for a 5 speed conversion.

Differences...

I understand there have been numerous improvements over the years but the gear ratios have stayed the same. Here's a link to one shop's insights. http://www.drwtransmission.com/subaru_svx.htm

When I was rebuilting my moneypit, I found out that 94s and earlier has one set of gears in the tranny and 94.5s and laters have 85 teeth gears there instead of 82 or something like that.
