O/T: Chevy Cavalier Meet

This weekend was the big Annual cavalier/sunfire meet that is held in Ohio. It was an interesting opportunity to compare this to the SVX meet. It was a completely different atmosphere at this meet... There were between 300 and 400 cars there, and most of the owners were younger than me. There were lots of problems with kids driving their cars into eachother, also underage drinking etc. It is interesting to see how competitive this group of car owners is. They are not the family that we are by any means. There is a group of owners that originally founded the cavalier club and started having this annual meet about 4 years ago. Of this group of 30 or so people, 2 of them were at this meet, and I was one of them. Back then, we were the family that the SVX club is now in its beginning stages. Let's not let immaturity and competitiveness overpower our mutual love for these fine cars.

PS- The image in the attachment may be sommewhat disturbing to SVXers... I just had to fit in somehow. (My cavalier was just painted and I didnt want to take it to the meet and risk stone chips.)

Larry-

TFM is the Cav club I am in... because of the HUGE number of cavaliers, there are many different owner groups. www.teamforwardmotion.com

Always wondered about your Cavalier Fetish

It just strikes me as odd. Talk about vehicles on the opposite sides of the spectrum. Definately not cutting on the Cav but for someone to be so active with both types of cars makes me wonder if its time for Mike to spend some time in the rubber room!

I'm not a really big fan of cavaliers. They're cheap, uncomfortable, poorly built pieces of junk. BUT... I kinda got this showroom condition 1986 Z24 Hatchback plopped in my lap a few years ago. (1986 is the first year they were made, and the hatchback is VERY VERY rare.) The hatchbacks that were made are almost all off the road now due to defective welds for the rear clip. They fit poorly, and rusted very quickly. I was lucky enough to have a car that was one of the random quality checked cars, so the welds were done a little closer to accpetable specs.

Anyway... i kinda went and said more than you guys probably wanted to know about cavaliers, but I have made a lot of friends because of that car, just like I have with you guys here because of my svx. They are the reason I am active in the meets and on the forums.

Here are some pics... A little note regarding the engine pic. The car is 16 years old, and has 99,600 miles... the enigne has never had to be really cleaned, I just made sure it never got dirty.

Mike,

The engine bay, that's incredible if the engine area has never been cleaned.

What do you do, drive it with Saran Wrap top and bottom?

My car's like Pigpen. Doesn't matter how much I clean it, 5 minutes later, it's all dirty again.

Don't sweat the label on the car, Mike. I've owned quite a few very mundane vehicles that I became attached to, because they treated me right. Ya' love the mutt just as much as the pedigree. It's simply a good thing that folks can join in on any hobby or vocation & find others to swap stories & lies about. And your Cav looks sweet to me!

Ron.

All i do is dust it with a cloth, and keep armorall on the black portions. The below link is a car that I considered buying about a year ago... it was a 86 hatchback like mine... just a good comparison of what the engine can look like if not maintained.
