Yeah! How many miles are you going to put on it before you go forced induction?

Re: Sov13t’s Engine and Supercharger Build

Was pretty tired last night so no pictures or anything yet...

It needs more work and tuning to get it running perfectly... we suspect some vacuum leaks and were troubleshooting a few things through out the weekend... while squeezing in the auto-x and getting burnt in the sun... so as always time was against us

So far it has ~150 miles on it on the highway... ran great and with decent mileage even though it is running somewhat rich... will need more laptop time.

It did smoke a bit... believe its due to the rings not being set yet... however I haven't ran it since the trip back home so not sure whether that is taken care of or not. Did use up some oil... exactly how much will be determined later tonight.

Plans for the near future are to run it more... change oil... examine it more... run it more... change oil... examine it... run it more... change oil... probably by this time it will be around 750-1000 miles on it... I believe this is roughly when we will begin playing with F/I. But I guess it all depends on how things go... being careful...

On a side note... Stage 3 clutch grabs like a mofo... so I find myself a stranger in my own car (stalling)

Thank you to Tom and Tom for everything... this project and this car... would not be around if it wasn't for them!!!

Re: Sov13t’s Engine and Supercharger Build

It revs much nicer... lower c/r and lighter weight of internals...

Power/smoother too early to tell... it hasn't gone above ~4.2k rpm so far.

Driving impressions, you definitely feel the engine a little better with non-stock engine mounts... we ran Legacy ones which are softer than Gruppe N but still do the job... well at least for now... will see how they last. Everything else I would say needs more tuning... so once again needs more time

Once the hair dryer is hooked up it sure is going to make more power... then its dyno time... will see numbers instead of words.

Re: Sov13t’s Engine and Supercharger Build

You should change the oil at 250miles, then 600miles then 1500miles now. This is what Nissan does here with its new cars, this is what is recommended.

Re: Sov13t’s Engine and Supercharger Build

Yup that is roughly what we are aiming for... I believe 250, 500 and 1000 was discussed initially... then switch to synthetic and go from there.

It would take forever to seat the rings.

As it is its a 8.5 to 1 compression engine with gas ported pistons and no blower yet.

After the break in (and the supercharger) she will only get fully synthetic.

Re: Sov13t’s Engine and Supercharger Build

Does synthetic oil tend to "disappear" in these motors like it does in the STis?

No... Have gone 10k on synthetic oil and still right at the top mark on the stick... Not in a built motor but a stocker
