Transmission slipping all of the sudden

Hello everyone,

I have had my svx for about 3 months now, and it has been perfect, up until tonight.... I stopped at a light, put it in neutral for 1 second by accident, put it back in drive, and it was slipping ALOT! It was perfectly fine last night, and up until that point. The trans fluid/filter was just changed when I had the front diff swapped due to a bad bearing. Could this be computer related AKA not locking the torque converter fully? It was better for a few mins after sitting for 2 hours, and then it started slipping again. I cannot tell if it is slipping through all gears, since it does not want to build speed at all. I did get home, and did get up to about 40 at one point, however it would slip in any gear, and at all RPM's. I really need some help, as I am 300 miles from home at college... any ideas?

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe, it is defiantly related to oil pressure, looks like you have lost it the forward clutch won't apply. Have you checked the level? Was there some trouble fitting the box before that may have damaged the pump drive?

Harvey.

Re: Transmission slipping all of the sudden

I checked the fluid, and it does not seem low at all. I had a transmission shop do the front diff swap for me. The fluid is pink and clear, and does not smell, so hopefully that is a good sign. I tried putting in the FWD fuse, and that did not help at all. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is the transmission shot?

Thanks,
Joe

Re: Transmission slipping all of the sudden

this does not sound good. if tran control module is bad fail safe is 3rd @ rev. fail safe means if pulled tran module out would only have those 2 gears.

Re: Transmission slipping all of the sudden

This just happened to me today. I couldn't get above 35mph, accept for like one minute where I was going 40. The car would just rev all the way up but not putting any of it to the wheels. i NEED some suggestions as well.
It will get up to like 30-35 no problem...but after that...nothing.

Re: Transmission slipping all of the sudden

I've seen a few times now that someone has put the car in neutral at a light, or by accident, or whatever, but when they put it back in drive, the trans is gone. Why would this be a repeating occurance? It has me worried enough that I specifically avoid putting my car in neutral at lights.

If the oil level in the transmission is OK, then it is likely that the high clutch may have gone out.
Check the ATF level first.

Harvey.

Re: Transmission slipping all of the sudden

oohh i hate when that happens! did you accidently hit your hand on the shifter when trying to change the radio station? that seems to happen to me all the time grr usually it slips if i rev to high but i learned a little trick. > if i accidently hit it into neutral, push it all the way into park first, then place it back in drive. it avoids confusing the transmission and stops that awful stuck between gears noise. im actually considering taking out the stock radio and putting in a aftermarket on the top shelf instead of "sucker punching" my shifter all the time lol
