I thought Tom's car only had 250whp last time on the dyno?
Anyhoo, This may seem counter to common knowledge but turbo cars can and usualy do have stronger lowend or midrange while on boost, and they don't use crankhp to create the boost. I've seen 440? ft-lbs on a STi at 3,400rpm when I backed off as the front end was making a beeline for the side of the dyno as the front diff got to working. Of course superchargers win on other things so turbo vs supercharger is about tradeoffs. Let us also not forget that the 6spd is SLOWING his drag times. It eats 15more WHP than a 5spd. It has horrid gear spacing for drag racing. Even worse without a DCCD controler you have an open center diff, which makes for very limited traction given that the car was designed around the front wheels keeping 1/2 the power. Anyhoo the 3000GT is a bit faster on paper, with *gasp* full oem development, 0 reliablity, and a pricetag that makes a SVX at full MSRP + cost of mods seem damn reasonable. So to make this a fair comparison, what times are the base FWD 3000GT's running? |

Two cars of similar weight, similar drivetrains, one having 300hp, one having almost 400, the 400hp car should be faster. |

ok... for people who have not been here for a while let me explain
When we dynoed our cars (mikecg and I) we saw the same issue w/ both cars... The power and torque curves fell on their face after 3500rpm... The engine quit making power and began to fall... This is ALL due to the fact that the stock cams were made to keep low and mid-range power up for the low gear ratio in the stock car... Gives the car great power on the highway.... That being said, the 6mt IS slowing me down because I spend all day at 5500rpms and up while I am racing... and I am not making any power there... So that being said, If one were to simply build the heads and use everything else stock... these cams I am using would make a HUGE difference. Jason, I have set 2 different records with 2 different cars and both are faster than urs... get over it. I spent 6500 on the s/c and 3800 on the 6mt... I am happy with my investment and with an engine to support both... it will be insane fast... Not to mention I got my DCCD controller hooked up but I need a new power source now With a good launch I will be solidly into the 13's... I would love to see ur "road demon" run consecutive 14's on a 75* day. Anyway... I like the discussion, it is a good read but please keep in mind your knowledge on the subjects before posting #'s... Crank horse means nothing the in the real world... its all about how much u have at the wheels and how much the car weighs... Tom |

With the DCCD controler, I would assume it could be upto 1/2 a second off of your time. Timeslips looked like you were getting moderately good traction but there shouldn't be any reason that a 1.75 60ft isn't possible and thats a 1/4 second off of your 2.0 60ft run minimum. Some people hold to .1 off the 60ft is equal to .2 off the 1/4 mile, but out of a few hundred timeslips I don't have one run that wasn't .1 to .1 unless I screwed up down track and made the timeslip meaningless.
Tom, If it is declining after 3,500 then its no wonder. Powerband being a mess coupled with a transmission not geared to it... A built auto with stock gear ratios would make more of it given the tall gearing and biased around the low RPM use. Of course better matched doesn't allways mean faster. Then again the 6spd should shine once you get 2-3K rpm windows of solid HP and torque with a 6 or 7K rpm on the upper end. I'd love to see a 6K launch with say... stock STi rims and tires and a locked DCCD center diff to see just how fast one can be. little to agressive and it tends to spin them, but still grippy as hell with warm tires. Anyhoo, can't wait to see what cams do for you. |

internet gangsters strike again, if only they could get off their computers and do something constructive we would not have a problem.

Doesn't seem like it's falling off to me. And wasn't that dyno with stock cams? I'm not trying to be an internet gangsta Phast, I just don't get it. This car weighs about the same as a 3000GT VR4, and has more power. To me, that means it should be faster. |
