A $6 dollar wash turned into a $ 1,010.07 one

I am embarrassed to say, I was too lazy one slushy morning when I was driving my svx, and wanted to wash the car. Normally I hose off my cars, and that is when the lazy me set in.

The car wash was only a few months old and I have never taken any of my cars through there, until then. The new brushes burned the paint off the right and left molding of the car as well as the door. I had it estimated yesterday and the price is $1,010.07. I have planned on making an insurance claim however I must pay a $500 dollar deductible. The gentleman who gave me his estimate mentioned I should call the car wash company and tell them I am doing them a favor as I am certain this will not be the only car that will be damaged and that they have their torque settings too high as there are burn marks and can be easily detected to be from the brushing from the car wash.

I had called the service company today and he took my report and said the company would get back with me.

So what do you guys think? I am so ticked about this whole thing as if I was not so darn lazy I would not have had this issue.

Now from the previous owners there are a lot of pealing like paint on the aft bumper and some scratch as I believe I know what that had come from as they told me what had happened to the car. The wing of this car also has some huge chips in it showing white instead of the polo green color it is. Do you think I could get this included into the body work?

I am not expecting for the claim to fix this as well, but would like to have this all done at once if feasible. Do you think I can talk these people into doing this for me for a decent price?

The insurance is only going to cover the fees associaed with the accident (or in his case the car wash)
If you would like the body shop to do some additional work while they are doing the repair, it's probably best to speak with them and cover the supplemental costs out of pocket

I've never taken any of my cars through one that touches the car because of this.

My mother took her 01 Volvo V70 cross country through the carwash last summer. It made a scratch on the hood that was virtually invisible. Needless to say, she went down screaming, and was about to file a report iwth the police and better business bureau, and then he shelled out 1000$ to get her hood repainted. don't take it lying down. It's not your fault, it's his. THey only cover factory equiptment, but last i checked, our doors were factory, and so was hte paint. Don't let him get away with it, else someone else will pay.

Thanks for posting this. It just makes me more sure that I will not take any of my cars through one of those things.

I only go through the touchless wash types. The brushes, even if they are working properly, will always have dirt particles in them from previous washes. I can always tell when my parents have taken one of the Foresters through a brush wash, because the mirrors are folded forwards.

Yikes, sorry for your mom...I am looking forward to receive a phone call from them. I doubt, I will and believe I will have to call once again. I will try not to let them push me around, but I am much better interfacing rather then using the phone. My looks speak louder then my voice....lol...honestly!

I sure wished I hadn’t. I do trust the people who are going to repair it. This company has been around for such a long time and had this nicely repainted willy’s done in blue and white. The guy who referred him takes his Alfa Ramiro spiders to them.

I took my car into a brushless car wash... Just jet powered water..

I happened to notice that the rear spoiler lost a little bit of paint... and over the last 12 months, the rear spoiler has started flaking all over

time for a repaint(the only part of the car that wasn't repainted do to the storm a while ago)

Sorry to read this. For $6 dollars, you can use the basic touchless car wash service? Any damaged pics for your car? Good luck.

PS: do you guys think touchless is safe and be able to do a good job?

I only hand-wash my cars when I have time...

I will try and get pictures for ya. It’s an eye soar if you ask me. I am so ticked about it still that I am not certain I want to zoom-in on it any better then what I can see with my naked eye, if ya know what I mean. I will see what my mood is when it’s warmer out.

That's a shame...My mother went through the same ordeal...well, sort of. She bought a 2007 Ford SUV and decided 2 weeks into ownership that she'd try the auto wash...the guys operating it never raised the blower and when they ran the vehicle through it smashed her grill and put a gouge from the hood right up over the roof and down the back. She told the owner about it whom avoided her calls like the plague. I can't quite remember all the details, but she ended up taking it to Ford to be repainted and she had to pay for it.

Good Luck with this and don't let up on the car wash place.

Smiles,
Melis
