Quick Update

My block is destroyed. Apparently two of the cylinders got beat to death by the broken piston rods.

The mechanic is sourcing two engines. So far he has got only one reply. An engine with 59K for $1850. Not too bad I guess.

I am so f__king mad. I had just had the camshaft and crankshaft seals replaced, new water pump, the alternator upgrade, and tons of other crap I am too pissed off to think about right now.

So now instead of having my car back this week, God knows. Anyway I just thought some of you may have wanted an update.

I am not having fun with cars right now.

Last Sunday I bought a 88 Conquest TSI. Recently rebuilt and in otherwise great condition. Body looked good, interior was clean. Overall the car was in good shape.

My wife was following me back to Memphis from Birmingham in the Conquest. About an hour away from Memphis the damn timing belt broke. Guess what? It destroyed the head and God knows what else.

So that car is also in the shop, well in another shop. Both cars together will cost me about $7000. That is not including the $2500 I paid for the Conquest.

I am almost to the point of taking the damn bus and saying the hell with all cars. I mean, does anyone have luck this bad??

If what doesnt kill you only makes you stronger then I should be like solid steel after all this crap.

Best of luck to the rest of you.

Oh, man! Another destroyed engine?!?! Okay, that's rough. I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems like that - it makes my wife's broken AC seem like small potatoes.

Our biggest mistake in these situations is to think they will never get better. They will. We're here for ya Leo. If you need a sounding board, you know my number. Keep heart, "bubba."

I once owned three cars and all three had engine problems.
86 MR2-blown engine
95 GSX-crankwalk(blown engine)
88 Colt-broken timing belt(a.k.a., pistons beating the heck out of valves)

So I know how you feel. Fortunately, I had a 93 VFR to ride to work. I never thought I would get tired of riding my cycle to work, but after 3 strait months of it, I was ready for a car again.

i am not losing hope......

just money. by the end of all this i will have spent $9500 on these two cars.

the svx will have a warranty and it is paid for so i am fine with that.

the tsi is paid for and will have between 250-300hp and be a little rocket ship. i am buying a street prepped head for it and having the bottom end machined plus i will invest in some forged pistons. for now i am sticking with the stock turbo, buying a bigger intercooler, bigger radiator, exhaust system, kevlar pads, and a tranny cooler. that should keep it cool and make it more reliable.

i am just pissed about spending all the money right now. my wife and i were in the process of saving to move to phoenix. of course that will now be pushed back another six months to a year.

thank you everyone for you continued support and encouragement.

Leo, was just wondering how you were getting on, and I am really sorry to hear your current run of luck.

Keep the faith man, when you have them sorted, you will be ahead, and am I right in thinking, with one car more than you had before, so you could let one go, and release some funds for the move?

Also, when getting your stuff sorted, pay as much or more attention to stock mechanical common sense as to the power and cosmetic upgrades. Beware of people telling you "Timing belt was changed last service" and so on. If you can't see a new belt, don't believe you have one.

Joe

Leo,
What other car could you buy, that you'd be satisfied with for 9,500 simoleans? Better yet, you'll have TWO cars you can have fun with at that price. WHAT A DEAL!!!

I hate to be happy about your haveing to put off your move, but, that means you'll still be close enough for me to come and visit. At least, for six months to a year.

Nah, I don't think so. We could call it a "get well" present.
