Dead SVX found in North Carolina

I found something very rare in NC - a dead SVX. It was quite sad... A "teal" spoiler-less 92. The reason they had sold it to the salvage yard was due to a bad tranny. It also had some slight damage on the right front fender but nothing too bad. By the time I found it someone had bought the windshield and hood. The interior is in remarkably good shape but won't be that way for long. Rain is now getting in since there is no windshield. I was able to buy the passenger sunvisor for $10. The light went bad in mine and it was sagging. Unfortunately the drivers side was sagging so I didn't buy it. I thought about buying the driver's seat since the leather was not as worn as mine but since it had been in the rain I figured it would dry out and crack if I started using it. They only wanted $75 for a complete seat. They did say they would sell the complete car but I didn't even ask the price since I knew my wife wouldn't let me drag a dead SVX home. It was a sad experience for me. I've owned mine for nearly 10 years now and I always get excited when I see another SVX but that was the first one I had seen in a salvage yard. Like I said, you don't see SVXs here in NC - at least I don't. Thanks for letting me ramble... Paul

PS, it was found at http://www.109upullit.com/

I had to part out a wrecked one.....twice. it breaks my heart i always want to fix them but the 2 i parted out where beyond repair with bent frames or excessive rust. Every year our cars become more and more scarce.

I bought more land to help eliminate the problem of too many cars not enough room. Im trying to catch up to you Earl

Ive got as many as I can fit right now. im working on getting a 3rd plus my wifes so we will have 4 up and running soon. my poor monte carlo ss aerocoupe was put on the back burner for eternity. but since the svx I could care less about a chevy. they only made 6052 of them so its hard to just get rid of it.

Yeah, its off of Old Thomasville Rd/Hwy 109. They keep it in a special section and you have to be escorted when you go back there. The car is mostly complete. So your in WS? I never see and SVX here. I did find a 94 L (red) in Kernersville for sale. It's kinda rough though...

Yeah, I've seen the red one on Autotrader. It's been at that lot for a LONG time, since I bought my first SVX late in '05 I think. Originally they were asking something exorbitant for it, something in the 9K range I think. The price has since dropped, but yeah, it's a little rough. There was a teal 92 in fairly good condition at a lot in High Point a few months ago. I don't know if it's been sold since then or not, but most likely - the mileage as i remember was pretty low and the price was right. In any case, I'll definitely be heading to 109 on Tuesday. Do you remember if the metal mounting bracket and flip-down door for the stereo were decent? After last night's torrential rain who knows. My stereo was stolen a few months back and I have an Alpine deck I want to install... just nothing to mount it to. Add to the list the left front fender, antenna aerial, bottom two exhaust flange bolts, etc etc... lol

But yeah, I glanced at your locker and I'm pretty sure I spotted you on the other side of 40 near Silas Creek sometime this summer. I wanted to chase you down at least to wave 'hi' but I was on my lunchbreak. I lived in West End until a few days ago, but just moved out to Clemmons. I THINK I may have seen you leaving the carwash/detail shop in Clemmons at some point too now that I think about it. There's also a Laguna on University as you pass LJVM. Pretty easy to spot as there's a garish set of chrome wheels on it.

The whole dash is in great shape and I also think the left fender is good too. The antenna was partially sticking up but still might work. You should definitely swing by. They aren't the friendliest people there but I had just come from work and had on a tie and nice clothes so that might have had something to do with it LOL!

Wow... I mean I've been to junkyards before but you weren't kidding, that place is like a scene out of Thunderdome! I got the stereo bracket and the plenum cover off the engine for 20 bucks, but be VERY glad you didn't ask him how much he wanted for the whole car. You'd have had a coronary on the spot. NINE GRAND for a junked SVX. I laughed out loud and asked him if he was serious and he just said "Hey, it's an SVX"... yyyyyyyeah, I didn't pay that combined for the two roadworthy SVX's I've owned. He wanted 850 bucks total just for both differentials. If you still want that seat though, the rain didn't seem to do too much to it but leave a coating of dust. It was still reasonably supple and hadn't cracked... yet. With some TLC and a lot of leather conditioner, it might be worth it.

Wow, nine grand for a wreck that's sitting out in the elements with no hood or windshield? Maybe living, breathing, rolling SVX examples really are worth way more than we figure.

Could be the guy sees that number as what it's potentially worth in pieces. Nah, even that's a stretch.

HAHA!! Thunderdome! Yeah, it was like a scene out of Mad Max. When I got home that day I told my wife that it was similar to the bar scene in Star Wars. $9000 is crazy… I would have thought like $500 at the most. Did they escort you out there to the car? I thought that was funny too. When I was there a guy was out front parking cars – he was the friendliest person of the bunch.
I don’t know about the seats… I don’t know what I would do with the extra set of seats once I pulled my old ones out – my garage is getting full. In fact, I bought a simple seat cover for the driver’s side since it was really the only one in “bad” condition.

The guy who looked like Santa Claus after a three-day bender was parking cars when I pulled up. The guy who escorted me back to the car was pretty cool though, even gave me a hand prying the bracket out of the dash. When I asked if he knew of any other dead SVXi in the area, he mentioned he had a friend at the DMV/DOT who could do searches for salvage-titled cars, and that he'd ask him. He sounded like he might have been from up north... I guess that kind of thing stands out when you're surrounded by the hellspawn love children of Dolly Parton and Larry the Cable Guy. Oddly enough, a carload of NCSA kids showed up while I was there wanting to take pictures of the place for an art project. The same guy who quoted me nine grand for the car told them they'd have to pay "royalties". I'm guessing he didn't really have a clear concept of what royalties are, but hey, a guy can try I guess lol.
