Just two new tires?
If you have two used tires that have some ware would it be OK to put on two new tires with the same size/tred on an AWD car like the SVX?

I would recommend putting 4 tires on the SVX two are not enough to keep all of the rotors off the ground.

I had to
I wouldn't recomend just 2 unless the wear is comparable, I think it wears out the clutch packs.

your going to need 4 new tires.....if the 4 tires have different amounts of tread left your going to destroy the AWD system.

If the tread is very very close to being the same, I would put the used ones on the back. I would do that as my last choice though. New tires all around would be the best thing to do.

Let me tell you from experience, buy all four at the same time. I bought one to hold me over for a day until I could get the money for the rest, and the ride was not fun. The whole car shudders if you do that. If memory serves me right, the part taking all the abuse is the limited slip differential. I can't recall as to whether our cars are LSD or not. If it is not LSD, then it is just the differential taking all the punishment. And that one day of driving probably contributed to the rear axles not getting power in my old car.
Check the tread wear, if all tires have really close to the same amount of tread, then by all means proceede. Keith

i just put 2 new tires on my brother's legacy gt cause the 2 left tires blew out. I put the new ones on the front and the old ones on the rear. the car drives fine because the old tires had <1k miles on them probably i'm not sure.
Also the tires on my svx the tread on the fronts and rears are noticibly different because i don't think the previous owners ever rotated the tires. This reminds me that i need to get wheels/tires soon.

That shows the importance of rotating them.

just 2 used tire's
Like everyone is saying,it is ideal to replace all 4 tire's at the same time. However if $ is an issue right now, putting 2 tire's on is ok as long as they go on the same axle, and are the same speed rating..H,V,Z,W...etc as the 2 tire's they are going to be matched up to.Same size and width also, that can play with your abs system if the diameter is smaller or larger, since all 4 wheel sensor's won't be reading the same approx wheel speed.

You have a 1/4th of an inch diameter to play with accorinding to Subaru but even any difference will cause the tranny stuff to heat up just like driving a part time 4wd on the dry road. Make sure if you do it that your tread isn't too far gone on the tires you have and be sure to use the SAME TIRE with the SAME TREAD DESIGN on it!
