Question 300HP WRC Impreza?

I was watching a special on Speed about the upcoming WRC cars, on each one they listed some stats., included in some of the stats listed were HP figures. The WRC Impreza as well as a few other were listed as having 300HP, I dont get how this is possible, I know engines are modified. Is there something in the WRC rulebooks about capping HP like in japan? They used to(dont know if they still do) only allow cars up to 280hp so manufacturers would drop the figures to 280hp if they were over...can anyone explain this apparent discrepancy?

thanks,
-Alex

they are limited to 2.0 liters and you must have a 34mm restrictor which basically limits horsepower.
WRC cars start from high boost at low RPMs and then begin to tail off into lower pressure as the revs build up, basically the opposite of what a normal turbo'd car does. This causes the horsepower curve to be very flat (unprecedented in a road car) and produces an amazing amount of torque and response. the WRC WRX has 435.2 ft lbs @ 4000 rpm. real power output is closer to 600+ hp when the engine is allowed to breathe properly. not bad for a 2.0L 4-cylinder!

Yea I remember reading something about the torque...I know the horsepower is limited to "300"hp but had no idea about the torque figures of these engines... I did get the chance to see something about performance companies... Prodrive was featured in one of them... They didn't let the camera crews go back and get close ups of the engines that they were building but I saw one from a distance... I know what Titanium looks like, and I immediatly saw a little Boxer 4 in the background with a beautiful light bronze color to the internals... I think it's safe to say that the internals of the WRC car are titanium...
