Remind me, why do I like SVXs?

Hi,

Well for me Christmas has come early, in a particularly, sarcastic and cynical way. My SVX broke down again the other evening after only 2 weeks and 900 miles. Joy.

I now have to face the prospect of driving a 800 mile round trip in a 1.0 litre Toyota Yaris, I'm going to invest in a brown bag to put over my head in case anyone recognises me... What was that about good will to all men?!

The problem is definitely electrical, she started up fine, then after approximately 2 miles, she cut out and wouldn't start again, turning over, but not firing, this was in wet conditions.

Anyone experienced anything like that? Is there a known quirk that would cause an SVX to cut out and not start?

Still, Merry Christmas to all, and I look forward to meeting the UK SVXers in the New Year!

Jason

A lot of SVX's are suffering from bad MAF sensors as of late. Do you get any engine codes?

Wet weather stall

...Can it be that the rumour is true?...That the UK versions of the SVX were fitted with Lucas electronics?

Just kidding...

The MAF is probably the best place to look first.

Good luck.

Error codes

Hi,

...Even Lucas electrics would be more reliable than the Veglia systems I had on some of my Lancias...

How do I get the error code for the engine? It's at the dealership now, so am stuck with the Yaris (ugh!). But I'll pass on the MAF sensor info to the technicians.

I'm beginning to wonder if I should trade the SVX in for a Blitzen

Arrow Update/Cruise Control

I've got my SVX back now, in the end it was the temperature sensor which had failed - this was causing the engine to behave as if it was cold and over-fuel the engine, causing it to flood.

Total cost £48.00 (part and 1/2 hour labour to fit it). She seems to be running efficiently at the moment, 194 miles on an indicated 1/2 tank...

Another thing though! My Cruise Control is now not working When I activate it, I can here the solenoid engaging/disengaging but nothing happens to the throttle...

Anyone have an idea if this is something that has been disconnected? If there is a simple answer, I'd rather fix it myself than drag all the way over to the dealership (1 1/2 hours drive from home)...

Cheers,

Jason

Question

Can't help you here unfortunately Jason. Mine is the lower spec JDM model without cruise, and I have no familiarity with the vagaries or faults it may have.

In case your problem is a common one, make sure you ask the query on the main Technical forum. The American cars all have cruise, some of the gurus there may have the solution.

The most likely cause is that the vacuum tube is disconnected

Hi Andy,

Whereabouts is the vacuum hose located?

I'll take a look first thing in the morning.

Hi Andy,

Thanks a lot, took a look this morning and found that the hose had been disconnected, re-connected it and hey presto! Wafted to work at 95 - look Ma no feet!

Now to rig up some auto-steering, then I could eat my cornflakes

I'll definitely be there!

Do you remember me posting some info about the JAE in Billing (end July)?

I'll put together another post, then we can contact the organisers for a stand.
