Re: 5 speed swap

No Alex, the speed sensor for the speedometer mounts up on the top right side of the front diff housing...when you take it out, you'll see that it is made for a cable to go into the diff there...

what you have pictured is the rear speed sensor, which is used with the TCU to distribute the front/rear power delivery.

Re: 5 speed swap

No I'm sorry Huck but you are wrong.
European SVX 4eat's doesn't have it's speed sensor in the front diff. Both are located in the center diff (yes it also have a proper center differential) one is located inside the rear housing and one outside.

No, Huck is never wrong.
Alex is fitting a manual box to a Euro car. He wants to swap the Euro front inductive sensor, for a US hall effect sensor to the front diff to drive the speedo.

Harvey.

Yes but Huck stated that he could use the front sensor out of his automatic box. (the pictured sensor is actualy the same type as the european front sensor) Which he can't Other 4eat's in europe are the same as the US 4eat's but not the one in the SVX

Huck this is the first and only time

Re: 5 speed swap

The speed senor for the european transmisson look like this one.

If you cut this one its 3 wired inside.

And on the US autotranny its placed here. If i dont take wrong.
This have just 2 wired. And not will fit in a european verson manual tranny.

So i get one from a 99 impreza. (3wired) And this fit. But now i dont have the contak that is on the top of the speed senor. Thats the problem so far.

Re: 5 speed swap

agreed.
i have the same problem.
my svx is a french one ( euro spec )
and the stock 4eat speedometer is on the rear of the gearbox.
i have swapped to a 96' 2.0l legacy wagon.
and the speedo on this trans is in the middle of it.

talk about this, i have a problem whit it.

basicaly svx sender have 3 wires :
- 1 to ecu
- 1 to 12v
- 1 to lead bonding

but legacy have 2 wires :
- 1 to ecu
- 1 ti lead bonding

all look fine but :
sensor is from a car in mph. and my svx in in km/h.
so, the speedometer give me wrong speed.
i mean, he give me the double speed.

so, mu question is :
did mph speedometer sensors are different from km/h sensors?

You could maybe install a US speedometer (which has MPH AND KPH on it) so you could judge your speed...
