Outpatient procedure scheduled for today
Rear wheel bearings on the teal. Not up to full marbles-in-an-oil-drum song, but it's time; definitely for the left side.
The previous left side bearing and seal set came from Subaru, the right, from NAPA. They lasted 40,000 miles. dcb |

F.Y.I. just had my rear bearings done and the local Subaru dealer is using wrx bearings on the svx. They also say that it's the seals that are the weak link, not the bearing itself. The seal fails which lets the contaminants in.

My mechanic didn't believe me when I told him it was wheel bearing time after only 40,000 miles. I replied, hey, give a listen and tell me it's something else. It was only after I bought the silver SVX that I realized how loud the bearing drone in the teal had become.
"Aww, man... do I hear wheel bearings? (Turning-up stereo.) Naw, can't be." Then that steady drone started changing pitch in hard cornering, and after a 250+ mile weekend run I detected just the slightest bit of a roar coming to a stop at a traffic light. Monday morning, I called the mechanic. dcb |
