I did not like the questions. You can tell that they were written by the liberal media.

Like for instance instead of asking about rolling back the Bush tax cuts and capping tax cuts for those over $100,000, they should have asked "expanding tax cuts to further promote economic recovery"

Most "In Favor" choices seem to put you in the liberal side "good guys" category while the "opposed" put you in the the "bad guy" category.

They did throw a few questions in there that were stated the opposite way, but most were skewed.

Just my opinion. That and $20 will get you a lap dance. (I'm sick of coffee)

Mr Clinton was on a college deferment when he left the US as a Rhodes Scholar, which program he did not complete. Admittedly, he sent a letter of intent to join the ROTC, then failed to follow through on that. He entered the draft lottery system and got a high number (you use 336, which I believe is correct). That number was not called (BTW, I had 318 that same year and was not called - I later enlisted in the Air Force, served in the Security Forces, and was honorably discharged in 1976).

Mr Carter signed a pardon for all who fled the US to avoid the draft. However, Mr Clinton did not need a pardon since he was first on an educational deferment, and subsequently entered the draft lottery on return to US soil.

All that aside, I'm with Mr Pockets to the extent that none of the candidates represents who I would like to see in office. Both sides are deeply in debt to their own special interests, hundreds of millions of dollars aren't spent by corporations, independent millionaires, unions, environmentalists, etc for nothing - Republican or Democrat - IMHO the main difference is which camp gets fatter and which one goes on a diet - the middle class (to which I think I belong) foots the bill.

lee you show wisdom so often lacking in this world anymore. I have been getting a kick out of Kerry's attempt to rally the middle class against the rich when he is one of the wealthest people in the Country!. His wife I believe is the sole heir to the Heize fortune. Heinz 57 Inc. was among the top income generating food corp. in 2003. Hypocryte.

I agree Lee, thanks.

I would only add that in fact the wealthy do also pay a lot of taxes. Their income tax levels are usually higher than those of the middle class. They do also reap the benefits of many tax incentives- deductions, lower values on capital gains, etc. These incentives are designed to encourage them to pursue business development which establishes jobs, economic well being, etc.

Without the wealthy, we'd have no one to invest in business, and no jobs left. I appreciate them. I really don't want the government responsible for job creation and national economic well being (Socialism).

The fairest taxes and tax breaks are those that lean toward flat tax percentage adjustments for everyone.

I don't think income taxes are the answer at all. I think a federal sales tax would be much better- everyone pays when they buy, vendors are held responsible for the collection, even illicit income sources would have to pay tax on purchase. Drug dealers would pay taxes, independently wealthy would pay taxes, Enron type problems would not exist, accountants would hardly be needed, tax collectors would be virtually unnecessary. A simplified system of this sort would then allow us the energy and human resources to really focus on spending cuts and having a fair taxation system designed for the benefit of the people, not the political game playing and pork which it currently is.

Yes, I guess I have Libertarian leanings.

No, I'm not happy with any current candidates.

Yes, I'm still proud to be an American.

But yes, I'd like to see a radical re-shaping of the American political system.

It would be awesome to vote for statesmen who offer experience and leadership prowess, instead of salesmen who offer tiny little handouts in exchange for my children's future.

Are you my long lost twin?? I couldn't agree more. The short term recession that would follow as people begin to save instead of spend will be overtaken by the growth of foreign business as our companies can once again compete in the world market. If they sell products outside the US, there are absolutely no taxes paid along the way, thus lower prices, thus more foreign sales, thus a larger workforce needed. A win/win/win situation.

The accounting industry would be in chaos, but hell, 100 years ago the horse-shoeing industry was in chaos and trying to fight the automobile. A fluid workforce is key to a successful society. Retraining is better than fighting to keep dying jobs.

Dream on (said as kindly yet still cynically as I can muster), this makes too much sense (isn't there a law against that).

Cool

Per the poll, it looks like I'm voting for a Bush/Leiberman ticket.
Oy, bring 'em on!

Actually, I think Al Sharpton would be a lot more fun to watch.

Don't 'ya just love it when "THE RICH" are really a two teacher household making a whopping 100K between 'em?

I asked a homeless guy for a job the other day, but he wasn't hiring.
Said he couldn't afford to make payroll.

I think I deserve to live until I'm 100, eat, drink & mainline anything I choose for the duration, get red carpet med care from Mayo & Hopkins, but sue any greedy doc for screwing up; & I want everybody else to pick up the tab.

National sales tax? That does it! I'm buying ALL my SVXes from the guys with them cheap drugs up north from now on. And..I hear they're makin' good cheap Mobile Uno from Cactii in TJ.

America - Love it, but leave it when rubs you the wrong way.
