Trouble shifting to D. Brake Sensor??

I’m looking at a 92 LSL. The guy says it has trouble shifting to D and he has to push the lock button. He says is’t maybe a brake sensor.

Does this sound right to anyone? Can anyone help me with what a repair would look like? I’m handy and have owned two other 92s in my years and can do the work and would like to fix it.

Re: Trouble shifting to D. Brake Sensor??

I've been told it's a shift lock solenoid which is weak.

Re: Trouble shifting to D. Brake Sensor??

It could also be something related to the Shift Lock Control Unit (this is under the center console). On my previous SVX I ended up replacing Shift Lock control Unit, and everything worked find for while, then I ended up replacing the connector on the harness, and everything worked fine for a while. Then I ended up just putting something to block the interlock mechanism.

I kind of suspect that there was a cracked solder joint in my Shift Lock Control Unit, but didn't have a change to diagnose it before I sold it and got a new SVX project. If it pressed on it at a certain angle it worked fine....

There is a little inspection cover just below the hand brake lever, you could pop it open and make sure it's plugged in.

Good luck!
Ian.
