silly questions..maybe someone knows.

Hey everyone

So I bought something I wanted to buy..oo.. 25 years ago..

Anyway I'm into Japanese culture/cars.. what better to own a Alcyone SVX? came super close to buying a car back east that was from Japan and imported....and also was shopping/looking at cars from Japan but after visualizing myself trying to make a left turn blindly from the passenger seat and getting killed by a local Mormon assault vehicle/van here, I bought a mint 1992 SVX from Colorado last week with 40K miles on it.

(random photo..)

So I'm on a mission to make my car look just like it came off the factory floor in Japan for the Japan market (minus the side markers). The previous owner was on this site at one point.. and he treated the car like a collectors car and did a great job taking care of it..and I'm planning to do the same.

I've purchased the front emblem and searching for a good quality clear corner lights and a rear tail light garnish (hope to wet sand and clear coat them so they look brand new)...also doing some searching for the rear "subaru" emblem in the rear quarter..

One issue I am having is possibly a slight leak in the rear diff drivers side.. (seal) so I'll have to deal with that..

Questions..

++I read somewhere that in the U.S. they call my car color "Dark Teal" .. yet over in Japan it's called.. "Peacock blue"? (I know dumb question but I'm just wondering about that...anyone else heard that?)

++Is there a difference between the outer rear tail lights versus the US ones? I can't see a difference but I've seen them for sale..I can't see the difference..is there one?

++The rear garnish/tail light that says "Alcyone" on it.. I've run into some that are dark grey font.. and some that are lighter almost white... did they change that at some point? The darker is the correct one for my year I'm guessing?

++the headlights.. the JDM ones are.. HID? Require a separate ballast or something? Are they different? I bet they are...

finally last question..

++the key fob.. I only have one working key fob and I know what kind of batteries they take so I'm doing homework on that.. but it got me to thinking... does anyone know what the Japan market got as far as a key fob? Was it different?

Anyway.. contemplating if I should get those BBS wheels they had on them and a S4 grill.. but exciting and fun to join the board - thanks!

Of course you realize that this will devalue the car in a "Collectors" market.

I believe these were only on the '96 and '97 models.

It's called Dark Teal in Canada

JDM cars are Right Hand drive so the headlight's lens focus the beams to the left which in North America would be into the oncoming traffic rather than to the shoulder of the road.

Cool thanks for the answers yeah I know - I'm debating on changing to the clears and putting the Alcyone badge/rear garnish but I don't think it'll totally kill a collector in the future (Plus I plan on keeping the car for a really long time..)

But yeah I have thought about this for a while. anyway thanks for taking the time!

Re: silly questions..maybe someone knows.

Wow congrats!! I know exactly what car you bought. I saw it on autotrader last week and been meaning to call the owner for more information.

Post some detailed pictures when you can. I really wanted to see the interior but the pictures the seller posted were really small.

Congrats!!!

Thanks! Will do, yeah that was the first thing I asked too the photos were all super small but she was very nice and kind in person and was a pleasure to work with - it's been raining and cold here so I haven't been spending time outside very much BUT I will post photos soon. It's mint.. totally mint.. I did pay more than I wanted to..way more than I wanted and above blue book... but in my experience it's better to buy something taken care of than trying to fix something not taken care of....so the price hurt but.. I think it's worth it.

it came with all the maintenance records and manual,SVX pen, window sticker..1 owner basically in the family..VHS tape and all that including some rare articles and books about it.. I might scan and share those.. but it looks great I'll show photos soon

(it's even got a clear bra on the front so.. looks awesome - he did a great job taking care of it.. sad part is I don't think he even knows his daughter sold the car.. eeek...) Leather is good with no rips or tears although worn.. I'm dealing with a slight hesitation though so I'm not sure if that's transmission/MAF/fuel filter so working on that.. and the brakes are squeeling + that diff leak.. not sure how bad that is.. but other than that it's .. yeah.. I'll share photos soon

Anyway thanks

Re: silly questions..maybe someone knows.

I'm not sure if this will work but I'll give it a try (these images might be huge...)

I apologize - it's been cool and rainy here but here are some interior photos.. once we warm up I'll detail the outside... also I.. I think whoever put clear bra on it too the some trim piece off the underside of the hood.. I can see clips but I can't see what's supposed to be there so I'm researching that..

ALSO HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE shout out to John for your messages I'm learning lots so THANK YOU very much!

Re: silly questions..maybe someone knows.

Thanks yeeeah :/ hopefully I can figure it out.. I wish this had an OBII port or something so I could see what's going on with it... but I'll try that after the fuel filter/injector cleaner.. maybe wires.. maybe coils.. can't be the plugs it seems too low mileage...

Um, the car is over 20 years old, so if those are the original plugs, I would think they're due for a change...if ANYTHING like that is original (plug wires, fluids, belts, fuses, soft parts, tires, shocks/struts, wiper blades, etc), I would imagine they'd all be due for replacement...but have fun with converting your US model SVX to a JDM version...

Thanks yeah I'll change the plugs - already got a fuel/air filter and that'll be the next thing I'll do. I'm just doing the exterior in a JDM look but nothing else. I think the Alcyone version looked a little better anyway thanks for the advice!

Re: silly questions..maybe someone knows.

The reason I mention coils is because I changed 3 on my '92 and one so far on my '97. If it has an intermittent misfire, I would try disconnecting one at a time until you find the bad one.
