Off the Roaders
Yesterday I received the latest issue of Hagerty's car magazine (my antique SVXes are insured through Hagerty). The cover story was entitled "Dust Bunnies." The article was about three old cars running around off road in the Mojave desert. The cars were all AWD. They were a 1983 AMC Eagle station wagon, a 1973 VW Thing, and a 1984 Subaru Brat. They had a fun time, loved them all, and wished that they were still made as modern cars.

Re: Off the Roaders
VW Thing was not AWD from the factory. Which is not to say somebody didn't retrofit the car in the article.
When I worked at a Subie dealer in the 70's we used a Brat to plow the snow off the car lot. Had to throw a bunch of weight in the bed to keep the rear end on the ground!
