other Subaru auto trannys for SVX
Does anyone know if the newer 3.0 trannys will work on our SVXs. Im just looking into options and would like a newer one.

I believe it would require some electronic interfacing as the TCU is probably different to handle the definitely different transmission internals, i.e., no band, etc.

bolting it up would prob not be a problem but you would have to completly rewire your tcu. I already went through this. Its better just to get a plug and play trans.

rewiring is not a prob. I might do the newer TCU and rewire from the ECU if possible, heck if I could find a way I would put a 05 outback 3.0 tranny in with the steering wheel controls...heheheheh

The Outback XT /Legacy GT with the 4 cyl., 2.5L turbo engine has the 4EAT control pushbuttons on the steering wheel.
The Outback 3.0R with the 6 cyl., 3.0L engine does NOT have the 4EAT control pushbuttons on the steering wheel. The steering wheel pushbuttons control the radio in this model. I have driven both cars. The 4EAT tranny in both of these models is NOT a direct bolt up. An Adadaptor must be fabricated to bolt this tranny housing to the SVX engine. Also, this tranny must be shortened because our engine is longer then either the 4 cyl., or new 6 cyl. Suby engines. That's just the mechanical side. I don't know what it will take electronically.

Well its not a bad idea considering that the engine is 250hp stock and I really like the steering controls on the wheel (the Outback LTD does have the steering controls) it would make a very unique SVX

good luck. the wiring systems are totally different and well just about everything would be different. it would take a total remapping of the svx and for what? you just need a new trans. Is it really worht it?

same reason people are puting the 2.0t WRX motors into older Imprezas and Legacys, it can be done. I look at it this way, I could buy what to replace the SVX.......nothing, so I modify it the way I see fit. I dont feel like spending 70k+ for a new car (2 dr AWD).

you said ur trans was blown not trans and engine. why would you waiste all that time and money for an extra 20hp? it just doesn't make sense, and also, the 3.0 is an interferance engine which ours is non.
