Overseas container garage

I have been throwing the idea of taking two 20' overseas containers, putting them side by side, welding them together and making a garage out of it. It seems it would be cheaper and stronger than a conventional stick frame. What do you guys think?

I thought of this a while back as I work in a international distribution center and see these things everyday. Yes they are hot as hell in summer but I would have windows and some sort of ventilation as well. As far as being watertight our company had one dropped into the water a few years back and it floated until they could get it out. It was a 40' fully loaded with electric motors and probably weighed in at 25 tons , I dont think leaking will be a problem

They would be ugly, but not a bad way to go if you could get a good buy on them.

I know there ugly but I dont see why vinyl siding and a conventional roof wouldnt make it look like a normal buiding Ive seen a few models on a german website but they are just painted and dont look that bad. Some countries are using these over conventional buildings. I considered buying three 20' and making the garage door on the side thus giving me a 20x24 space. These things have a hardwood floor in them so I wouldnt really need a concrete floor, just throwing some ideas around I guess. I came across a website a few months back and a 20' with fresh epoxy paint was going for $800 much cheaper than the local barn builders who want 20-25k for a similar sized building

You can put air conditioned units or cut a hole and put your own AC unit in. I know a few places in the world where people live in them.
