Do any of you guys own this car or know who does?

https://allentown.craigslist.org/cto/5063482128.html

I have to sell my Polo green 97 SVX the car has 174,xxx miles it has been sitting for a year. The reason I parked the car a year ago is the steering rack blew and needs to be replaced. Before I parked the car I installed new brakes calipers, pads, rotors, and SS flex lines. Also all 3 O2, both knock sensors and the mass air flow sensor. The car has probe GT wheels with tires that are 4 years old with little millage, I have the original SVX wheels with peeling paint. Also the car has a 2.5" Stainless Steel exhaust with magnaflow muffler and factory tips. The car has some parking lot dents, paint is peeling of the front bumper and rear spoiler.

I am curious if this person is a member here. I am in the process of trying to get mine back on the road after sitting for a while and came across this ad that has something I would really like to buy from the guy. He is maybe 7 miles from me and my exhaust system needs to be replaced seeing as the flange from the front left pipe is rusted and it failed inspection when I had taken it in November. I replied to the ad, but figured I would try the forums as well seeing as there are so few of us that have these in the hopes that he may be a member. I would like to buy his exhaust system if he is parting it and/or even trade mine with him that can be patched so he can still sell the car whole. I have been getting the itch to get this back on the road lately and by dumb luck I saw this ad. If you know who this is (or the guy sees this) and could let me know if he is here, it would be greatly appreciated.

I would think that a member would offer it here first and get feedback before putting it on Craigslist.

I may have seen this ad on the SVXWN Facebook page.

I would think so, but I also don't see someone going to that extent of creating the exhaust system at one time without the advice from here. It is/was most likely someone from here at one point. Worth a shot to ask.

For $1,200 I would buy the whole car. It's a '97 with tons of new parts. A steering rack is a cheap and simple fix.

Re: Do any of you guys own this car or know who does?

I've considered that and frankly would like the idea, but having the room for a parts car could be an idea plus my wife would really break my balls on it.

Re: Do any of you guys own this car or know who does?

Exhaust for a 96-97 is different than the 92-95.
What year is your car?
You may be able to put the newer style on an older one, but if you have older one, it will not work on the newer ones. OBD1 vs ODBII stuff here.

That car is a STEAL, especially for a low production number year and last year.

Not enough people are saving the 97's when given a chance. THIS one IS worth saving and driving, whereas a 92-95 may not be.

Re: Do any of you guys own this car or know who does?

For the sake of clarity, can I get some other opinions on if I can even use this on a 97 to a 94? Also any of the engine components that are new that if I did wind up taking the whole car, do they work as well? I didn't even take that into consideration before, but I don't want to make a mistake in thinking it can work and it won't.

I haven't gotten a reply back from the guy either way so no luck so far. I am concerned though if I can't use it, which would really suck. That would be the biggest tease in the world considering I have wanted to replace the exhaust for years and all of the sudden someone who is probably 7 miles from has it but it won't work.

Re: Do any of you guys own this car or know who does?

The OBD2 exhaust will work on OBD1 cars, there is just no place to plug in the trhird O2 sensor.
To make an OBD1 exhaust system on an OBD2 car you only have to weld in a third O2 sensor bung, and install a third O2 sensor.

Re: Do any of you guys own this car or know who does?

This is where I wish I were more savvy about cars.

Is that a difficult and/or costly thing to do? I would have no idea how to do that, but then again any work I would get done would be by someone else so I guess it is would be on them knowing how to do it. Is it even worth it?

I'm going to try the guy again as I have not heard from him.

If the exhaust is in good shape than, most likely not.
But if the gaskets are shot and the bolts are rusted that will bring up the price.

Re: Do any of you guys own this car or know who does?

The guy is a member here and contacted me back. He doesn't want to part it, which I understand, but I need to make sure I can use this easily or not have to put a lot into converting it. The whole ODB1 to ODB2 thing is messing with me on it. The other issue is talking my wife into this.
