Just couldn't stay away any longer

Well, I'm back after about 6 or 7 years off. I just got my fifth SVX, an ebony mica 92, just like my first one. I got it with a with a 1-spd tranny for $700 and I just finished putting a 3.90 FD out of a 93 Legacy in it. Needs a little paint on the top and rear deck lid/spoiler, but the body is perfect. Runs good. Interior is complete and in good shape for nearly 200k. The factory rims are polished and look really good. But I may trade them for something with less offset.

I had just finished "frankenwedging" my XT with a EJ frank and I kept comparing it acceleration-wise to my yellow 5spd SVX that I sold to someone in Colorado. So I had to go out and get another one. The weird thing about being back in an SVX after all these years, you never forget the smell of the SVX interior. It is unique.....

It's good to be back.
Hi Earl!

Re: Just couldn't stay away any longer

Welcome back! I look forward to seeing photos of the new beauty, especially with the polished wheels.

So there IS a unique SVX smell. I thought I was going crazy when I'd go between mine and others, and it seemed like the smell of my SVX's interior followed me.

Thanks everybody! It sure doesn't feel like that many years. It's good to see so many of the old timers still around here. I can only imagine how much the collective wisdom of this site has increased over the years.

Thanks. I'm on USMB as redXTwedgie. It's got an EJ25 block w/22 heads and delta cams.

Re: Just couldn't stay away any longer

So far so good.

In my two months of ownership of my fifth SVX I have:

replaced trans/rear diff
replace f/r brake rotors/pads
replaced instrument cluster for bad speedometer
fixed illumination by grounding timer control unit
fixed surging idle by repairing fpr and egr vacuum lines
tightened some bolts in the rear suspension and
performed 15 min mod (huge difference)
repainted roof/rear decklid/spoiler
removed film tint and residue from headlights (PITA)
replaced OEM wheels/tires with 18" Maxima rims + 235/40-18s
replaced O-ring below PS reservoir
replaced both knock sensors
cleaned engine with Seafoam and MMO and Flush with Motor Medic
Exterior rub/polish/wax

When I got this car it had one gear, 4 warped brake rotors, no illumination, no speedo and wobbled down the road on those rotors. It's already been a pretty drastic transformation. My wife has been in South America visiting family so I've had bit of time on my hands.

Still needs:

shifter lock interface
support struts f/r
float on gas gauge fixed/replaced
ECUTUNE ECU and TCU upgrades

Thanks Huck, but I've already sold the XT. Your frankenwedge was of course the inspiration for my project. I was a little disappointed in the acceleration actually. The same motor in my 95 Impreza L was basically SVX-like performance. I expected better with the 5 spd. I'm pretty much done with manual trannies. I imagine if I had done something with the exhaust, I would have had better results. But the Impreza was just stock exhaust, so I don't know. Maybe I just expected too much.

I actually kind of feel like the fpr tube being slightly split had more to do with it than the egr.
