+ stick with stock, otherwise you need to modify the harness and probably need the ecu

back when I was a stupid ricer I blew up my stock engine with zex. I bought a d16 with tranny for $150 at the local junkyard and it only took two days to swap it in, not even hardly knowing what to do. Those cars are built like legos, even a 5 year old could do it. As long as you get a 96-00 engine with matching ECU (if you get a d16 vtec engine you'll need a d16 vtec ecu, same goes with manual or auto tranny) you won't have any problems at all. If he buys the same engine as before he won't need a new ecu. Just make sure you have an engine lift.. or better yet, join clubsi.com or one of the other bazillion honda boards and look for someone to do it for you.
