DIY tranny rebuild

How hard it is to rebuild the SVX's auto transmission ?
Judging by the factory service manual, the hardest part is
to actually remove/install the beast. The rest seem to require
a clean area, time, patience and a bit of thinking.
There is nothing to hone, very few things to press in and out,
few of selective parts...

Economically it does not look unreasonable - if the only
components to be changed are the clutch packs, o-rings
and solenoid pack, the total cost of components should be < 1k...

well said.

That's a pretty good idea.

I know nothing about transmissions, and even less about automatic ones, but if there is relatively little specialized equipment or skill that cannot be learnt by reading a book involved, I would do something like that myself if my transmission ever failed. Of course, I'm not so sure I'd have such an easy time getting the unit off of the car.. I think I have a friend who has a friend who has a lift, but who knows.. maybe if I buy him some beer.........

I think I agree with you. There is also a guy out in Oregon that has been thinking about this. According to Huck a legacy tranny could be used also. Just swap the transfer housing and diferential. Rebuild it and have it ready to go. Have someone else put it in purhaps.
