August 28th VT Cruise Through The Hills

Hey, jumping over from www.nasioc.com here. I just bought my 1992 SVX LS and have already learned a ton from this site. Thanks! I'll lurk for a while before n00bing it up with questions.

I didn't search since I'm flying out of work last minute to try to sleep (double shifts rock my world). But I though people near New England might be interested in this drive. Naturally, it'll be highly Impreza-centric, but those who know NESIC know it's about the friendliest regional gaggle of car folks you could hope to find.

I hope to see a few more SVX's there.

-17 to 100 south.
-Turn up the Sugarbush access road which is off of 100. Within the first half mile or so there are a couple big lots in the sugarbush area that would be great for pictures. One lot I saw was down lower than the road by quite a bit, which means we could get a pic of all of the cars from higher up.
-Then we'd continue 100 south to Warren and make a left onto Brook Rd. which turns into Robury Mt. Rd. This will take you past Roxbury Gap. Take it to Roxbury and make a left onto 12A north.
-Take 12A north to Northfield Falls and make a left onto Cox Brook Rd.
-Take Cox Brook Rd to 100B to 100 to I89.
-From there people will probably head to Chili's.

Any other ideas?

On the drive, I met a new friend named Massive Understeer. I need to fix the front swaybar links (rattlesnakes), get a bigger rear bar, and mess around with tire pressure.

Tranny first though - powerflush, cooler, filter. Right now, something's leaking underneath and the trans is not inspiring extreme confidence. It's a little shaky.

Time to start asking tech questions.

NH cruises are fun, I went one one last year with Ted (NHsilverSTI and a bunch of other NESIOC guys uncluding Gus, Bilal, Vinny, and a bunch of other guys. But that was in the snow and muddy back roads with my Legacy. I told Ted if he got one together this fall (before snow and salt) then I would be in with my SVX.

Welcome to the club, Fuzz. I just put 2+2 and realized who you were from teh OT (hadn't seen this thread yet)

If you find that fat rear swaybar make sure to let us in on it. I have found that running about 47F/44R along with poly bushings = oversteer. One member has made a few custom rear swaybars but other than that we are out of luck.

Hey. I don't know if you caught my description on NASIOC but I'm taking a break for a while. I waste way too much time there.

Anyway, I was thinking of motzablocko (?)'s rear bar, poly bushings, and trying to find something I can drop in to upgrade the end links (clattering now). I'll post back if I find anything interesting.

47F/44R? Do you find that pounds over rough pavement? I've been experimenting with high/low 30's, though I haven't really been driving hard since the Cruise.

Alot of us have been waiting for Mtobolzco's rear sway bar but he is still working on it. I'll be one of the first in line when he does get them on the market.

The pressure I run is a little hard on rough pavement and 225/45/17 tires but the handling more than makes up for it.
I've run around 45/42 on the stock rims on the wife's svx down to about 42/38 and it handles much better and still doesn't pound bad with the squishy 55's.

You'll find the tires will wear much more evenly with the pressure higher than subaru recommends. I ruined a few sets of tires at the stock pressures before experimenting with higher pressure. I got 25k out of my last set of azenis sports at the higher pressure with no cupping.

In my last autocross I ran my first run on normal pressures (40/36) but noticed too much flex on just the fronts so I upped them to (45/36) which helped a lot.
