Locked in my Car

Help I locked my car went into the store and when I came out I could not un lock it. I climbed thu from the Pass side when I got home the door will not unlock from inside or outside. If I put down the window turn the key to un lock pull up on the inside unlocker and pull up on the out side door handel it will open. Any suggestion seems like something slipped. Auto door lock remote is shot. Gona put it tech alao

You need to remove the door liner: 5 screws, two at the front of the door, two in the armrest pocket under the felt, one under a plastic flap under the inside door handle. Then pull the panel outwards and the bottom and slide it upwards.

I suspect that either one of the linkages has come away from the lock or the motor has stopped in a half-open-half-closed position (this can be due to water inside the motor or bad contacts).

I replaced the fuse it unlocked ,now it won't lock. No noise when I turn the key and the inside lock is stuck. I will try the fuse again.

Still something wierd is going on. I got locked out again. seems that if I remove the fuse and then replace it, I hear a click sound and then the rurrr sound of the door lock and the locks work. I operate them 10 time or even 20 times, no problem then the next day I go to unlock the car and nothing happens. I am back to Square one.
If I put in a remote starter with door lock feature will this still happen?

I have an aftermarket entry/starter and unlocking my doors with the key is impossible.
Not sure why.

John,

I had the same problem, inside the motor is a set of brass spring contacts that rub on a brass plate attached to the gear mechanism, which in turn is hooked to the motor. The brass spring contacts have lost some of their "springiness" and probably have twisted somewhat in their track. I was able to get a couple more months of service by some surgery on the ramp that causes the contacts to jump the surface - thus electrically signaling the end of cycle. When it jumps track there is no end of cycle signal received so the system freezes in whichever state it finds itself - locked or unlocked. Resetting power (pulling the fuse) in effect performs the reset. In my case I eventually bought a new motor/lock mechanism as the only long term solution.

It's inside the door, attached by two screws on the side with the latch and one 10mm bolt on the door face (after the door panel and plastic sheet is taken off).

see part #2 on this page: http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...category=602-A

I don't think there are any sources just for the motor assembly, you have to buy the whole thing. The plus side is that no re-keying is required as that's a separate part. To replace the part, you have to take off the panel, remove part of the plastic sheeting, remove the screws and bolt, unhook a couple of rods and two electrical connectors, pull it out, reverse to install new. I'd guess about a half hour job, only need a large phillips head screwdriver (for two screws mentioned), medium phillips (for door panel), 10mm wrench, a little dexterity wouldn't hurt either.
