part list for strut replacement

The car has 170k miles.
Plan to replace the struts and mounts.
Should I also plan to replace the top and bottom spring seats and helpers?
Do they tend to go bad by this time?
I am also aware of the single use nuts, but am trying to eliminate a front end rubbery scrunching sound as well, and was wondering about the other rubber parts.
Thanks.
Bill

Re: part list for strut replacement

Stay away from Subaru struts. They've been on the shelf for years and the seals are leaking. Within a year you'll need new ones again. Either get someone to rebuild them (good luck) or get some coilovers. Our options are decreasing click in my signature for a build with STi coilovers, but they'll require fabrication.

Re: part list for strut replacement

According to recent threads Subaru now has struts available with a much newer build date. There's been a lot about it on here recently.

Re: part list for strut replacement

Thanks for the input.

I would like to stick to stock parts. I will search the forum for the posts about the newer struts. Is there a certain known parts dealer who has the newer struts?

For you who have replaced their struts, have you found that the spring seats or helpers needed to be replaced? I'm trying to get the parts before I begin the project.

Re: part list for strut replacement

Here is my Subaru struts with dates: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...90&postcount=4

Here is my thread on it: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=61619

Some bits did end up disintegrated when they removed my old struts, not sure which, but they just got them from the local subaru dealer...

Re: part list for strut replacement

That is great info, thanks. I didn't see that in my search.
Unfortunately, I don't have a local dealer so I will be mail ordering everything.

Re: part list for strut replacement

The shop listed the part that disintegrated as "Strut Boot Retainer".
Apparently I needed 2 of them at $17 something each.

The local mechanic that did the work did not list the part number...

Not sure what that part works out to in subaru terms..

Here is a diagram with price list: http://www.buysubarupartsnow.com/par...and-components
