Swap questions.

Hi, checking in again on my WRX 5spd swap I gave up on last summer.
Reasons: hot garage, tranny stuck on guide pin (and I couldn't figure that out ), Man want go fishing, not spend summer in hot garage. (BTW I got those TC bolts off finally with a dremel grinder) Only recently did I learn the torch trick for a stuck bolt. *insert I AM STUPID smiley here*

Anyway, with some help with the transmission from a knowledgeable friend, I got it off and it's full speed ahead on the swap.

I have a polo green 95 SVX L (I think it's an L ; it's AWD, Grey cloth seats, grey pleather interior, wing)

some questions:

1. On step #37 of Tom Johnson's write up (BTW THANK YOU TOM! AWESOME WRITE UP!) it says: "Install flywheel and clutch, YOU REMEMBERED TO HAVE THE FLYWHEEL CUT RIGHT?"
What does this mean? resurfaced? what has to be CUT?

2. When I took off the flexplate, there was a seperate, smaller circular plate (about 4" in diameter), does that go back on when I install the flywheel? Is this the "flywheel seal" mentioned in SmallCar's instructions?

3. I got a pedal assembly off of a turbo baja. Should work right?

4. What does "Modified" brake booster mean? (Other than adding the threads and shortening the shaft on the stock one)

5. Is the mounting point for the clutch master cylinder pretty standard in these swaps? (the passenger side of the brake booster)

6. Do I do anything with the Shift Lock mechanism next to the E-brake? Just leave it? Maybe that's a later step...

7. Just to make sure, I don't need a wrx brake booster, or a wrx rear diff, I can use stock right?

That's all for now,

TIA

1. On step #37 of Tom Johnson's write up (BTW THANK YOU TOM! AWESOME WRITE UP!) it says: "Install flywheel and clutch, YOU REMEMBERED TO HAVE THE FLYWHEEL CUT RIGHT?"

- It needs to be resurfaced. check with local parts stores to see where you can get it done

2. When I took off the flexplate, there was a seperate, smaller circular plate (about 4" in diameter), does that go back on when I install the flywheel? Is this the "flywheel seal" mentioned in SmallCar's instructions?
- No... That is for the flexplate only. I don't know what small- car is talking about unless they are suggesting a rear engine main seal replacement... which is always a good idea while you have it open

3. I got a pedal assembly off of a turbo baja. Should work right?
- Not exactly. The pedal boxes need to be modified in order to bolt up with all 6 mounting pointing on the brake housing. I can make you a set of pedals if you wish

4. What does "Modified" brake booster mean? (Other than adding the threads and shortening the shaft on the stock one)
-Thats what it means.

5. Is the mounting point for the clutch master cylinder pretty standard in these swaps? (the passenger side of the brake booster)
Yes... thats where it is but you need to trim and drill to get it to fit exactly

6. Do I do anything with the Shift Lock mechanism next to the E-brake? Just leave it? Maybe that's a later step...
- You can just leave it, or u can take it out... its up to you as it no longer serves any purpose

7. Just to make sure, I don't need a wrx brake booster, or a wrx rear diff, I can use stock right?
- its easier to use the wrx brake booster as it is already the perfect size. BUT you don't have to
-You can use the stock rear differential and axles

I hope this helps

Tom

Thank you very much Tom!
I searched all over the forum before asking and you gave me all the answers.
I'll get back to you on the pedals when I get to that point.
