Question Heh! SVXfiles! . . . .

If I'm gonna add a nitrous (Zex) and just keep my drop-in K&N air filter (or use a cone air filter), would that change the effectiveness of the higher pressure fpr (could it then go lean at WOT due to the air efficiency mods) or would it just use more of the fuel delivery without depleting it?

Also, my bro-in-law who is an airplane mechanic by trade and an experienced engine mechanic (boats, cars) tells me that the fpr mod can't work because the engine will compensate for increased fuel pressure at the injector by shortening the pulse. Is that true at WOT where we want the added fuel, or will the "out of the loop" WOT condition allow the added fuel pressure to put more fuel in the mix without computer or air/fuel system controls?

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP AND CREATIVITY!!

P.S. I bot a 22670AA240 for $78 (incl. S/H) from SubaruParts.com.
Just waiting to get these questions answered, then install!

The bump in fuel pressure ( 45.4 over 36.3 ) will help drivability, and help to offset some leaning caused by a drop in filter, BUT, for an svx my nox guys say you MUST run a wet system, or you're looking for a blown engine. A wet system taps into the fuel line and flows extra gasoline. They start at $500 and can go to $1500. Yes the computer will shorten the pulse width to compensate as much as it can, but at wide open throttle the o2 sensors report, but do not affect the a/f ratio.

The SVX runs in open loop at greater than about 25% throttle. In open loop, the ecu does not compensate for the higher than normal fuel pressure, and the motor will run richer than the factory setting. I would have thought that with the small size injectors that come installed in the SVX, a dry kit would spell destruction for the SVX motor, but several people (elninoalex, phastsvx) are running the ZEX dry kit with no problems.

Thats great, my nox guy says the smaller and shorter ( amount of time ) the better, he said he went thru like 11domestic 4 cylender motors, before he switched to wet, and has had no problems since. my other mechanic has a dry system that had 14 good 75 shot runs on a 4.6 mustang, but when he ran it with 110 jets he exploded the motor. I'm not a nox expert, I'd rather find more power thru supercharging or turbocharging, or most reliable for the long run, IMHO, gears. The quest continues, good luck All.

Installed an '01 2.5 Impreza RS fpr today...

...entire install took me ~45 minutes and was not bad at all. The worse part about the install was the amount of fuel that was dripping out of the fuel rail when I popped out the old fpr. Other than that mess, great install, which should hopefully give me a small boost in power at the track.

My old fpr will be up for sale on NASIOC tonight. Members looking to upgrade to an RS-T buy these things in a hurry...

A few pics...

1st and 2nd pics are of the stock 36psi SVX fuel pressure regulator. 3rd pic is of the installed Impreza fpr from above. 4th pic is of the installed Impreza fpr from the side next to the egr tube...

P.S. Now to get my 4.444 installed and head back to the track for 14's...

Well, I disconnected the battery last night and drove the car 50+ miles today - to and from work. The engine idles smoothly and I haven't noticed any change in driveability. As I only have 1st and 3rd gears, I didn't romp on the throttle, but I have noticed a little extra oomph down low. I also inspected my tailpipes and there's already some black exhaust residue accumulating on the tips I cleaned yesterday (previously it would take several days before I would see any noticeable residue). My car is definitely running a bit richer - I'll have to wait until my next dyno in the Fall/Winter to find out just how much more though...
