Upper Radiator Hose Collapse??

I have been noticing that I have to keep filling up my radiator with coolant and my upper radiator hose looks like a drinking straw trying to suck something from one end, while the other end is closed, so the hose collapse onto itself. To get the hose back to orginal shape I open the radiator cap to let the pressure out. Just last year I did a radiator flush and replaced the thermostat along with the upperr and lower hoses. I did not see a leak then. I have not replaced my radiator cap, I think it is orginal, I have read on other postings to replace the cap every couple of years, my SVX is a 1994. Any ideas??? Could it be a leak or the upper hose just weak? I was thinking of buying the WRX STI silicone radiator hoses, with wire reinforcement. I am going to check if the STI has the same diameter as the SVX. But ouch, the STI silicone hose set cost $305.95 per set at 1st subaruparts.com ( Part # ST451624s000 )

Before you go buying hoses it sounds like there is a circulation problem. I'm not 100% but it sounds like a t-stat. I'd try a flush and new t-stat first then if you feel it's a hose try these http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...ht=silver+hose

Yes, it's definitly not common for the hose to be doing that. Instead of just replacing the hose I would inquire as to what's causing that to happen and where the coolant is going.

If anything the system should have positive pressure.

your radiator cap is venting pressure out like it should but not allowing the coolant pushed out to come back in. Hence creating a vaccum and when you take the cap off, the vaccum is replaced by the air comming in(this is why you keep putting coolant in. Anyway, pick up a new cap and check ur overflow hose to make sure it isn't clogged, that should set u straight

Thanks

Thanks for the advice, I just sent my order thorugh to 1stsubaruparts.com to replace the radiator cap. I actually ordered everything else ( upper & lower radiator hoses, thermostat, and gasket. I might as well do the job right and be thorough. Jason at the parts dept. is very helpfull with every order I have placed since I have been buying from them. I have not found a place yet on the internet that can beat their prices.

Thanks Tomssvx

Well, I got done doing a full cooling flush last night. Like I said I replaced the thermostat, gasket, upper & lower hoses and replaced the radiator cap. Also cleaned the reservoir by spraying water. I ran my car for 45 minutes last night, the upper hose did not collapse. So hopefully this time it won't happen again. Not looking forward to doing a cooling flush on my 2004 Volvo S60 R. Just changing the spark plugs to NGK Irriduim was hard enough!

Well thanks again Tomssvx.
