Help with housework

Hey everyone. I am trying to help my dad get the best deal on housework. we got a estimate for $ 25,000 for 3 security doors, about 3 window guards and driveway gates and siding. We estimated that everything should come out to $ 13,000. I am browsing online to see where I can get wholesale on the materials. Anyone have any good sources? what is the best way to find a construction company who isnt to expensive? theres so many companies who to choose from? Thanks everyone.

That doesn't seem to bad, 50% markup for labor, insurance, taxes, vehicles, etc. That may even include a warranty on the install. Remember, just like you, these guys are in it to make money, pay the bills and keep their employees happy.

I won't necessary go w/ this company, I would certainly get at least 3 or 4 estimates. Plus I would check out the company on www.bbb.org and I would also find out what other similar work this contractor (any contractor period) has done and see if for yourself and talk to previous clients. Also check state licensing and bonding requirements, they may owe on back taxes.

I would also find out who he is using for a supplier, he might be getting a discount that he isn't passing on to you. Did the contractor see anything that might make the job more difficult than you think it would be? Talk to other contractors when you get an estimate.

Also, how busy is he? If he is really busy, it may take longer to finish your job. The busy guy may be cheaper, but if he takes 3 months to do the job, where is the cost savings? Esp if your dad's place is a mess for 3 months.

Oh finally, get everything in writing, don't pay for too much up front (or pay the suppliers directly) and if you are unsure about the contract, have an attorney look at it. Don't want to see you get screwed.

Yes, I need help with housework as well. I was thinking about importing an attractive Russian maid that will meet all of my primary needs <evil grin>. I'm looking for a nice redhead that cooks, cleans, massages, uhh...yeah........nevermind...

Anyway remember to get what you want them to do in writing and make sure that you get addendums to changes that will require more money. You need to do some research to check their reputation. Some contractors wil take half your money, do a little work, and then disappear with your money. Happens all the time. Good luck man.

LMAO! Kelli does have really small feet. Genetically engineered for standing close to the sink and washing dishes

I could go for a sammich about now. Kelli's special of the day? Knuckle sammiches!

Thanks for the reply everyone. I know that markup is almost 50 percent everywhere, but I always try to get the best deal that's why I am buying the material myself and getting it installed. Even though I am getting the materials myself, I will still browse government sites and browse many construction companies for the best estimate. ANDDDDDDD I am especially going to pay AFTER they finish the work and with my satisfaction, Thanks Noir .

P.s: whats a sammich?

yes but some contractors ask for money for materials. i guess you could work out a deal where you buy the materials.
