Tire sizes stock wheels

I want to buy a set of snow tires this year. 97 stock size is 215/55/16 and 92 stock size is 225/50/16 but what other sizes will work? Anybody using 205/60/16 or other sizes?

They would be on stock wheels and stock suspension.

Narrower is better. 205/55/16 for me.

Re: Tire sizes stock wheels

So 205's work fine on stock wheels?

One the low end it looks like general Altimax Artic and Goodyear Ultagrip Winter. A little more money I can get the Dunlop Graphics. Any recommendations as to brand?

Agreed, narrower is better for snow. I went with 215/55/16 but I can't remember if there was a reason I didn't go down to 205/55/16 or 205/60/16. One possible reason would have been rim width. Each tire can fit on a finite range of rim widths. If you look up the 205/55/16 Blizzak on tirerack.com they have a specifications tab that will tell you the rim widths you can safely use. I think one other reason was that I wanted a slightly larger diameter wheel to make the speedo a little more accurate.

205/55/16 will fit rims from 5.5 in to 7.5 in on most any brand, but best to check with the supplier. The specs are published.

I have Nokia Hakapoliitta which I think are great. Have had 2 sets.

Re: Tire sizes stock wheels

I ran 205/55/16's every winter with the SVX on the stock rims. Never an issue.

You're going to love it. The only thing that can stop you is if the snow is up to the hood!
The Altimax have good reviews, you should be happy with them.

Re: Tire sizes stock wheels

A little early, but figured I would put the snows on before it got much colder. They are 205/55/16. The car actually feels a bit higher as a plop my butt in drivers seat.

Now it's time to get the those ski tuned up and hope for a skiers winter.

SVX92-97 yes the tires have holes for studs, but I am not planning on having them studded.

I miss seeing my BBS on the car already.

Re: Tire sizes stock wheels

I've been running three sets of snow tires each winter for years on my Pearlie, Christine and Di's Silver.
An SVX with snow tires goes better than my Military 3/4 ton Suburban 4WD, Chevy 3/4 Silverado 4WD on snow tires.
Subies RULE (on snows)!

Looking forward to it, last year with the all seasons it wasn't getting much grip in the snow. Even with the AWD it felt slippery.
