PCV Idea
In an effort to change the PCV regularly without having to use special tools I have come up with a way to get the PCV out into the open.
First, screw one of these in place of the PCV: http://www.amazon.com/Hose-Male-Tubi...I28VUZ19FGQ30B Then run a short length of hose up to an easily accessible area. Then attach this to the other end of the hose: http://www.amazon.com/Thogus-Fitting...U35FCWET&psc=1 Combine it with this reducer: http://www.amazon.com/Thogus-Nylon-F...FLI6P1W5&psc=1 And, finally, screw your PCV into the 1/4" fitting on that reducer. It might be easier to use an alternate PCV with 5/8" (actually, I think it is technically 19/32") hose fittings on either end, if one exists. Then you can just use that first part in place of the current PCV, run a short length of hose, pop in the PCV and then attach the rest of the hose.

Re: PCV Idea
How "regularly" do you change your PCV?

Re: PCV Idea
I think a better idea might be to use a catch can setup to collect oil vapor so that not as much can get to it and clog it up.
The added benefit is that because oil reduces effective octane rating of fuel the engine would be able to handle more timing which can possibly increase mpg and reduce emissions.

Re: PCV Idea
I have been changing it every 30K but I recall someone saying they change their's every 15K. I believe the argument was that it is known to clog quickly and that a clogged PCV can have significant negative impact.

Re: PCV Idea
Are you sure the OEM PCV fitting is 1/4" NPT?
Here are some check valves with various sizes of hose barb fittings: http://www.boombaracing.com/cv.html They are quite expensive for a PCV valve, but they can be taken apart and cleaned and the spring replaced.

Re: PCV Idea
Just before you go on. The PCV valve is not just a one-way check valve, it is a three stage valve that is spring balanced against the manifold vacuum. A one-way valve will give problems especially with idle.
Harvey.
