Not running right at 1100-1400 Rpm - idle looping, lack of power

My 94 SVX LS is running rough under a certain idle range. When I initially take off, it sputters and kind of jerks the whole car. This seems to begin at roughly 1000 or 1100 rpm's (so basically right away when you start to take off) and goes away just a few hundred rpm's later at ~1300-1400. This problem seems to be worse with the a/c on. It also tends to stall sometimes when I stop a a stoplight. For testing I tried putting it in Park and then revving the RPM's to around 1100 or so and I noticed the idle begins to loop, or fluctuate up and down. In my experience this typically would point to a timing problem or perhaps a cam sensor or idle controller. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there a timing adjustment on the SVX? How do I read for codes? (no check engine light has illuminated to my knowledge). Any help is appreciated.

-Steve

What kind of fuel you running?
Could be a knock sensor wigging out.

To check codes a power light will illuminate and blink on the dash upon ignition, AFTER the second time a problem has been found.

The way you described what is happening sounds an awful lot like when my timing was off ever so slightly. If you think you can manage, take a look at the belt and adjust it, or pay someone $300 to do it.

I run 93 octane Super (despite the $2.60/gal price tag). I would agree but the strange thing is it's intermittent. I.e. yesterday it seemed to run great again. Weird?!?!?

Not weird. I'd take a close look at the belt and the cam sprockets.

Still sounds like what I was experiencing.

To me it sounds like your TPS needs cleaning or replacing. Mine was acting sluggish and stuttery in the same range until I replaced the TPS. Now it runs like a champ. Try cleaning the existing one first with electrical cleaner. That usually does the trick. If that does not work try a new TPS. FWIW, it seemed to work for me.

I was thinking that or more likely the IAC.
