Two Problems

I was under the impression that my car was AWD, anytime in the past that I ever floored the car she would take off with no tire squeel. The other day as I am merging into traffic on a busy street I floor the car and I lite my front two tires up, I swear they spun till the car hit second. Now I am noticing this more and more.....did i break something? How can I find out if my car is really an AWD.
My second problem is that I was reading that a clunk or thud when goinginto reverse is the sign of your tranny going. My car Never did this before then for one day i heard and felt a thud..the next day no problem and none since. The car is shifting fine when I'm in Drive?
Thanks for the input.

If you look underneath the rear of an AWD car you should see a driveshaft going to each rear wheel. You should also see a large driveshaft going from the transmission to the differential in the rear between the tires.
If it does have these but you are spinning the tires, you have a problem. Under the hood there is a fusebox near the coolant reservoir. Inside this box look to the corner closest to the driverside front turn signal. There are 2 places for a fuse there. The one closest to the front of the car should have a fuse in it. The one directly behind that should be empty. If a fuse is in there it disables the AWD.

Hmmm. If you've got AWD, you'll see a "little extra between the rear wheels." The possibility is that your transfer clutches are toasted. The clunk in reverse could be a rear tranny mount. That's what it was for me anyway. it is not, necessarily, the tranny going south.

Also all cars in 92-3 are AWD Both LS and LS-L.
In 94/5 apart form L all are AWD (LS and LSi)
and in 96/7 all models are AWD.

Hope that helps further

FYI. The '95 L model can be FWD or AWD. The '95 L could be ordered with an "Active Safety Group' option that added ABS and AWD. There is no visual difference between the FWD and AWD models. You would either have to crawl under the car and look for the rear diff or open the hood and look for the ABS module (clearly labelled). The lazy man's approach (and my favorite) is just to ask the owner.

Cheers,
Matt

Sorry but not all 94 LS SVXes are AWD. What source did you get that from?

Later
