AC Cig lighter clock and temp gauge all stopped working at same time today

I let a friend borrow my SVX and he calls me and says all this stuff stopped working this morning at the same time. Climate control totally off, no cigarette plug power, clock and temp gauge. I'm guessing fuse related but seems like all that wouldn't be on one fuse. Any thoughts? Would I check the fuses under the interior panel or would this be the panel that's in the engine? I've never fully understood why two fuse areas...

Thanks for any advice

Check the clock fuse under the hood.
Also, unbolt the visors and unplug the wiring. They wires chaff and cause a short.

Ok that sounds like a good start, will try that. Thanks for quick response. I NEVER touch the visors for these reasons and I bet my friend decided to make use of them.

My bet is on the sun visor wires. They chafe, become brittle and short out against the A-pillar. You can renove the visor and check the wires at the connector for breaks. Either repair them or cut them back and tape them.

The issue is that over time the wires become brittle and eventually lose the plastic covering. When this happens they short out causing you to lose the following functions:

Here are the symptoms:

A/C lights will light up but NOT provide any functionality
Clock does NOT work
Sun visor lights will NOT work
Mirror adjustment will NOT work
Cig lighter will NOT work
Rear wiper does NOT work on intermittent setting

If you look under the driver side kick panel where the fuse panel is you will see a fuse in the first column 5th row labeled CIG /MIRROR. A 20A fuse Remove this fuse and physically check to see that the fuse has popped.

Re: AC Cig lighter clock and temp gauge all stopped working at same time today

Just another day in the life of SVX vehicle ownership...thanks for the tips. I'll plan to post back what the solution was but this sounds like a pretty predictable situation.

Re: AC Cig lighter clock and temp gauge all stopped working at same time today

Figured out the short. Turns out the visors were fine. It was the cig plug. The metal housing behind the plug internals came undone and it was shorting against the positive.
