I attended the 10th in July, 2002 and although it was warm, it really wasn't that bad. Speaking as someone who lives in the Chicago area, I enjoy our summer months because they just don't last long enough.
Anyway, I wouldn't mind another July meet as long as it isn't the weekend of July 28-29 because I attend the EAA Show in Oshkosh, WI. But that's only me.
The September 28-29 weekend would work for me, too, as an alternative.
I'd vote for either!!!

For temperature, scenery, and extra time to plan, I voed closer to fall (Mabey like mid septemberish?)

frankly though, it doesnt matter. If you host it, they will come....
the reason we set dates for things is so people can clear their scedules, not so it fits into their scedule

Ok I have waited long enough. I want to do this in advance to get the best rates possible for us all. I see 33 signed on for the attendance of the meet. Since the majority have voted for the fall I think september 28 for the following days will be the date. Since we will have to do 2 plant tours we can set up one for friday and one for monday. I will set the group up for 35 rooms and there WILL BE A CUTOFF DATE TO CALL IN YOUR RESERVATION BY!!!! That means if you do not reserve your room by a certain date you will not get to stay at the hotel with all the SVXi(at the group rate or maybe at all if they have no avalability). I will set it up for 30 non smoking rooms and 5 smoking(since I have gotten very little response on this). The Cutoff date I will try to make at the end of june '07 depending on what the manager of the hotel allows(maybe july '07 if I can push it) I will start a new thread once the contract has been set up and we will have all who MADE THIER CALL IN RESERVATIONS add to a list on that thread. This way we know who has not yet called in and can PM them if they want to go or not. I want to do this now that way there is enough time and NO EXCUSES for those who do not set up their reservations. I will set up the group name as the ALCYONE SVX GROUP and as stated will start a new thead once the group call-in reservation has been made so we can start setting this in stone. I am going to set it up at the gold award winning Comfort Inn and suites in LAFEYETTE,IN. It looks to be a very nice property. I will try to negotiate a complimentary meeting room if we have 25 or more reservations call in. PEACE TO ALL_IF WE BOOK IT YOU WILL COME!

Are you going to get a quote from the Homewood Suites? That was the hotel(and the one across from it as well) for the 10th anniversary meet.

They may remember us and offer us a good deal if we return. In any case, a little competition for our business may secure us a better price. Much like not buying a car from the first dealer you go to.

Having set up the past 5 Reading hotel accommodations, we had two Holiday Inns competing for our business. Sometimes the rates were very close, sometimes a lot further apart. As the "original" reading hotel, I know that the Morgantown Holiday Inn goes out of their way to please us. We also enjoy great rates since we have a returning customer status.

It seems like you have four days scheduled for this meet. September 28 falls on a Friday (The day of the first SIA tour). Many would arrive on Thursday, the 27th. The other SIA tour is scheduled for Monday, October 1. That's a lot of time for folks who have children in school.

The 10th Anniversary meet was three days; from Saturday, July 20 through Monday, July 22, 2002. Most arrived by Friday night and left after the plant tour on Monday. I think only one tour should be planned for.

The meet will be in LAFEYETTE,IN, on the weekend of September 28th.

this is the same place that the 10th meet was at, it is the location of the Subaru Legacy assembly plant.

If there is no minimum count for the tours, I think that offering the tour on both Friday and Monday would be a great option. Some people's jobs allow them to take off more easily toward the end of the week, some jobs allow people to "stretch" their weekend into Monday or Tuesday. The more flexibility, the better. No one has to stay the entire 4 days; just plan on the weekend being the bulk of the "meet and greet" time and Friday and Monday being optional.

BTW, Tom and I would love to come, but with his job situation the way it is, we can't commit to anything yet.

As usual, all of your ideas are sound and well thought out. Your input and analysis in your last post offers much more flexibility. No one HAS to stay the entire time, but it gives most of us the entire weekend to enjoy coming together again.

As you said, a three day weekend is easier to schedule for some members on Fridays and others on Mondays.

Your 2¢ is always valuable and welcome. As a member of the Network, why should anyone mind at all what you have to say, particularly when it is beneficial?

Will hopefully talk to the group manager tommorow as I haven't got to hear from her yet this week.(been trying since 11-13 and have left multiple messages and everytime she was in she was at a meeting or interview, Etc.) If I do not talk with her in the next few days I will contact the hotel that we stayed at last time. As soon as I get the group set up,hopefully on 11-20 Monday, I will post details as soon as the contract is set up and confirmed. Then, I will PM everyone as a reminder to set up your reservation! PS-and I am going to try and negotiate a complimentary meeting room so we can have somewhere to have a SVX night(lets just say I have some things to show everyone) and anyone else with rare svx memorabilia bring it along to show off!
