new steering wheel

How hard would it be to replace the existing steering wheel with one that is more sporty, say a momo steering wheel or something of that nature. would it be worth the trouble. just trying to get an idea
thanks
chris

you would lose your airbag.....?

i am sure they make steering wheels that fit the SVX. of course i dont know where but i am sure that you could call MOMO customer service and ask them.

Wouldn't you also lose your cruise control and horn functions? I mean it is a fairly complicated roll switch that all those functions run through.

I'd think you could get the horn to work, don't know about cruise.
I put one on my old mustang, and the horn still worked.

But besides all that, what the heck would it look like with the steering column....Yuck

Of course that was a '65 mustang so there wasn't too much in the way of electronics. So that was pretty easy. Other than the fact that when I put it on the first time I didn't ground it right. And every time I pushed the clutch in the horn would go off...

Boy did I feel like a jackass driving thru downtown!!! I've never had so many people at once give me the finger!!

NEW STEERING WHEEL- PART 1

I contacted MOMO about 8 months ago concerning the steering wheel I found on a japanese SVX site. They would not sell me a wheel to be used on a US car already equipped with airbags. You have to buy an adapter and when you tell them it is an SVX and it has airbags, that's it.

In Japan airbags are an expensive option. You can get the stereo controls in the wheel itself or an airbag, but not both. So this is basically the wheel you can get for non-airbag equipped SVX's. More in following post.

NEW STEERING WHEEL-PART 2

The Japanese airbag uses a different wheel and a smaller airbag It does not meet Federal Safety Standards and is not compatible with the US system

To my knowledge, the JDM airbag is the same as fitted to the US models.

Several Japanese owners have replaced their non-airbag steering wheels with the Momo wheel that was standard equipment on the JDM 92-94 Legacy GT. There are also other Momo wheels that fit on the SVX. I also remembering reading on the Japanese Club site that 1 or 2 owners replaced their airbag wheel with, I think, airbag equipped Momo wheels???

The Outback H6 has a Momo steering wheel. It should fit no problem. I am 99.99% sure you would have to make some modifications to the wiring harness for the air bag, to get the pin locations to match up as well. The horn and cruise should be good to go. Keep in mind you would have to order a matching airbag as well. I have not located any as of yet but I have heard of companies that make the inserts (faux air bag) for a lot of steering wheels. They are nice looking Steering wheels, leather and wood.
