RADIATOR... cRaCk!.. HELP!?

After enjoying driving my SVX.. after engine renewal 11 month process.. NOW I noticed coolant temp up/down some 1/4" sporadically.. Checked under hood when I got home.. Found 4" lateral crack in front of radiator cap to inlet hose nub!

Repaired with repair kit last nite.. but leaking again this am .. going to work. WHAT are my options? I assume can't be succesfully repaired.. How about Al radiator ($$$?) .. or what? New OEM?

Please HELP!

Thanks, Jim

Re: RADIATOR... cRaCk!.. HELP!?

When mine cracked I didn't bother repairing it, I just bought one of the radiators on eBay, they may not specify but they are made by Silla and are around $125. Been a few years now and no problems.

I'd also be sure to replace the upper hose and check my motor mounts. Plastic becomes weak with age and heat cycles. Soft motor mounts and a hard hose can quicken the death of a radiator. Honestly, I don't think you'll find many factory radiators much cheaper than $500 and assuming it is the original lasting at least 16 years is pretty darn good.

"OEM" for my Audi was $98 :P Made in the same factory, they just remove the VW/Audi logo.

I'd go with the ebay. Lifetime warranty, can't beat the price really.

What your Volkswagon isn't aircooled? How much does Hitler's Peoples Car Company charge for the factory part made in Brazil or one of those ex-Stalin puppet states?

I too would buy the crappy Chinese version but the reality is that if you're going to ***** about factory SVX parts prices you shouldn't be buying a newer car anytime soon.

That's nuts. Was $350 not so many years ago (and probably $225 not so many years before that).

Re: RADIATOR... cRaCk!.. HELP!?

I have a Ebay Radiator in one of my SVX's, it was an exact replacement, absolutely no reason to buy one from Subaru.

Re: RADIATOR... cRaCk!.. HELP!?

At Tom's suggestion, I ordered eBay SVX NEW (?) radiator by radsus (bright green!) for $131 w/ shipping.. Can't beat that.. if it works! (He says good review.. only one bad one-replaced!)

I think my top hose is quite flexible.. I overheated "new" engine when first ran (why?? - poss air pocket? underfilled?) .. I guess that cracked top!!?? [Redlined the Coolant Gauge]

Thanks Tom, Jim

If the ebay member has a lifetime warrenty, is that through them (the seller) or through a manufacturer.
