Head gasket swap w/o pulling the engine?

Possible? Worth it? I have a vehicle lift so it's easy to work from below also.

I'd just pull the engine. Esp since you're automatic and don't have to worry about taking a clutch apart and putting it back together. And that way you can clean up stuff and look around for looming problems.

Close to impossible. Think about how hard it is to change spark plugs.

Re: Head gasket swap w/o pulling the engine?

I know from experience that it CAN be done without pulling the engine. However, it does involve jacking up the engine sufficiently to raise the valve covers most of the way above the frame rails, so you have to unbolt the motor mounts. I didn't have easy access to an engine hoist when I did it, so I raised the engine. Knowing now how easy it is to pull the SVX (or most any Subaru) engine I'd definitely pull the engine if I had to do it again.

Yes - I will bite the bullet and pull the engine for total disassembly while at it.

Thanks,

Tapani
