Re: I'm looking for a set of wheels, any advice?

Ok, so I found out that the closest I can get in a 17x8 (5 x 114.3) is a +40mm offset.

Am I thinking about this backwards, or would I just be able to buy the +40 and get a 10mm spacer to make it work?

Is that right?

Re: I'm looking for a set of wheels, any advice?

What is the stock rim width?
You have to account for the difference a 8 inch wide rim would have on the offset. Someone correct me if I am wrong but if the stock rim is 16x6.5 +50 offset then a 17x8 would be +42 as an ideal offset?

Re: I'm looking for a set of wheels, any advice?

The stock rim width is 7.5 and everyone has been telling me that the stock offset is +55.

Or am I making that up??

I really do not know. I have not had my car for long and the stock rims are in my dad's garage, they came off the day I bought the car.

Same here. All I use my stock wheels for now is for winter tires.

The first thing I did was bolt on a set of rx-7 wheels that I had laying around. They are 16x8 +50mm and I ran a 245/45-16 tire on them, which makes me think that If I go +40 + 10mm spacer should get me right about where I need to be.

Last summer I ran 17x8 rota slipstreams, and I honestly forget the offset on those, but they were pretty much perfect. Had 245/40-17's on them, and it fit quite nicely. But I bought them second-hand from another SVX-er so I assumed that the fitment was correct before I even bought them.

Backwards

If you had 60mm offset, you could get a 10mm spacer to move outward, and end up with 50mm offset that fits.

I said 49mm minimum, Bill said 50mm, if you are using a 245 tire, any number smaller than 50 is a risk

I'm running 18x8 +48 Rota Tarmac III's... and I run 245's with easy room for 255's. Even before the coilovers.

Re: I'm looking for a set of wheels, any advice?

Ahh, I see Ron what you're saying Ron. I wasn't thinking about it "backwards" as in, I had it right which way was which, I just... Ahh this is confusing. Let's just say that I didn't have it right.

Maybe I'll just have to call it off for this wheel. They don't make it in a 17x7.5 or else I maybe could maybe make it happen.

I emailed a couple places to ask about fitment or any extra offset information, so we'll wait and see what happens.

And I don't really want 18's. To me they just don't look quite right. In my eye, 17's look perfectly proportioned to the brakes and the rest of the car, as well as not being too large and adding weight.

Maybe I'll have to keep wheel shopping...

Re: I'm looking for a set of wheels, any advice?

Another wheel that I'm seriously considering is the Enkei RPF1. I've always loved how they look, and their light weight and reasonable price is even more attractive. They make them in a 17x7.5 +48 offset. From what I'm reading, it seems like these would work.... Is that right??

A calculator like this may help you understand the relationships better:

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

First, enter wheels with same width but different offset, the relationship will become clear. Also, wheels of same offset but different width, say 7.5/8.0, position the same size tire on the same centerline.
Good luck with your wheel search

I am beginning to get a better picture I think of what is needed. And thank you for the helpful calculator. I've been on 1010's website, but hadn't yet run into that.

And dang, this is tricky. Why is it that none of the wheels I want will fit in there??

Well, if I must answer,
You want the wrong wheels
Or, you have the wrong car

I'm going with the former

The wrong wheels? Psshhh, get out. Sorry that I like classy wheels that perform as well as they look.

Maybe I'll just have to stick with the slipstreams for another year...

Okay, right wheel, wrong size
Call the manufacturer directly, tell 'em that you want the wheel with a 49mm offset
