need some info for tires

I'm looking at getting a set of getting a set of 17x8" 48mm offset rims for my car for the summer and I dont know what size of tire I should get that wouldnt cause tire rub or issues. Also was wondering what would be a good recommendation for tires for summer rims.

Re: need some info for tires

Well, stock size is 215/55R16.

to keep near the same rolling diameter, but plus one inch in diameter, and wider width,

Probably 235/45 or 245/45 17 inch tires on 8 inch wheels. 225 width will also fit, but why have wider than stock wheels, without fitting some nicely wide tires. (although I probably wouldn't push it to 255 width.)

I like Toyo T1-R for summer tires. my SVX came with a set from California... which I switched out to Michelin all-seasons, because it is winter here.

But my wife's Miata wears T1-Rs that I bought for it a few years ago. They are grippy, good with water, not horrendously loud, and they wear forever on the Miata... The SVX will probably wear through them a tad bit faster, due to weighing ~1200lbs more... but they'll probably still do ok.

But lots of folks like Kumhos, Goodyears, BFGoodrich, Bridgestone, Michelin...

I have some General Exclaims, for the Legacy, but they wear a bit fast, and get louder as they wear.

Mine came with 225/50R16.

I can vouch for Kumho...... order em from the Tirerack website or call around town for the best price. I think I paid $224 for my set of four Kumho Ecsta AST.

225/45, 235/45, and 245/40 are your best size options. You won't rub at that offset unless you go to monster truck tires.

Re: need some info for tires

I like 235/45/17, same size oem on some EVOs, I believe on 8". Earlier STIs had 225/45/17 on 8' rims, have some on one of our SVX.

If you get a tire with average treadwidth, you will be fine. A very agressive summer tire, has a bit more width, making it a closer fit.

Diameter is near same as 215/55/16 on 97s, slightly more than 225/50/16. The larger diameter makes the speedo more accurate.

I'm putting some TOYO VERSADO LX tires on a couple of our cars in the next couple of weeks, designed as a top-line touring tire, sizes 235/45/17 and 235/40/18.

Let us know what you choose and how well you like the look.
Ron
