Well actually there are not too many more than that, even including yours and Huck's.

There could be one or two lurking out there that we do not know about, but here is the gen on the ones we do know of, and primarily I am talking about factory issued yellows, code 518 Bright Yellow.

So far as we know there were two known yellow cars in Australia, and I think Subaru Australia bought back one of those.

In England we only know of two yellow SVXs sold. One of these was written off and scrapped. The other one is Malcolm's car, he still has it and it is a lovely car, well minded.

Germany was a very big market for the SVX. In the German SVX club, there were usually two yellow SVXs to be seen at the multiple car meetings. [ these two are all we know about; other yellow cars could have been sold, we don't have a way of finding out.] One of these cars has been sold to our member Tone in Portugal. Presumably the other yellow car is still in Germany.

So the known factory yellows at this time are:
Two in Oz, one owned by Subaru, one in use.
Two in England, one scrapped, one owned by Mal.
Two in Germany, one is now in Portugal, presumably, and one in use.

So of the 6 we know we can only bank on 5 survivors. Add in 2 colour changes in the USA, you are still only up to seven known yellow cars in use in the World.

That is a very low number, making it the rarest SVX

Joe

Yeah when I went into Subaru Alexandria in Sydney, they mentioned a yellow SVX in the Coogee area, they didn't say anything about Subaru buying it back.. I can't imagine where they'd store it, there's no "Subaru Galleries" but in the Sydney CBD there's a massive car volt where some pretty rare cars are kept.

Thanks Turbz

When James [jamsvx] lived in Australia he kept tabs on the yellow cars because he dreamed of buying one. I'm going from memory, but I think there were only two ever mentioned.

Please add in any information you find about them, it's important. In my view these yellow cars will go up in value before any other colour SVX because of the rarity factor.

Anybody got a link to that article, or can scan a copy so that we can record it on the Network?

Thanks

Thanks fellas.

The nrma article reads like a road test from '92, no mention of the yellow cars. It is good to see though, as it praises the SVX very highly indeed.

Harvey, your article is probably the one. It's interesting they mention 2 yellows and only 1 red!!

This corroborates the numbers that I mention above about the yellows. Reds are actually very common elsewhere than Australia obviously [], but yellows seem to be at around the 5-7 mark worldwide, probably less than 10 cars for sure.

Update: plus 1

Looking at various pictures I notice that K-Staff in Japan has or had a yellow SVX. This one has BBS wheels.

So we need to add at least one extra to the 6 or 7 we know.

Also, that one of a kind red car in Australia, I have some pictures I got from Jason and the red car is in the group, Reg No SVX - 011. Does anybody on the forum own that car?

Joe

Funny, I think I know the *of* the guy who had that red SVX.

It'd be hard to track him down. And he's in a different state.

Would it be this guy in blue shorts?

The car is wearing NSW plates.

Subaru mazine just had a story about buying the yellow one back.

Sorry for highjacking your thread Tony.

Australia numbers wise for the SVX is such a small market like England it is interesting to to track down the rare colours, the rare cars.

None so rare as your race prepared pearlie, naturally enough.

Thats okay Joe we are a friendly bunch "Down Under" just don't pick on our Kiwi mates only we can do that they keep telling us we are all decendent from convicts (not true of course).
While you there I am going to get a race engine for the car and Mike looks like getting the job to build it. Thinking of new pistons to get 11.7 compression, new rods, cams and porting. Got any suggestions to make for the project.

Thumbs up

You are a friendly bunch sure enough, although I take your point about the Kiwis, a rum bunch

I don't have much experience of engine building, so you would have to take my musings with a pinch of salt.

What Mike do you refer to?

With that high CR I'm safe to assume it will be NA? To get more power you will be needing to make it breathe better and rev higher.

Are you going to bore or stroke it, or leave it stock, standard displacement?

What I can recommend is that you read from start to finish all the information available in this thread:
http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=43222

and on the link to the engine build at NASIOC. This chap Bob known as either Bob the Fabricator or Rally Rob, he knows what he is doing. By learning from what he has achieved so far and mistakes they learned by you can save yourself a lot of trial and error and associated cost.

Graham my mate in England is building his engine up from scratch, but for a supercharger, not an NA approach. I'll check with him about components, but I'm fairly certain he is using Carillo rods.

Best of luck with it. We will follow with the greatest interest.

[BTW, if you still use the stock rad in the racer you must change it for an all aluminium one, or the plastic top will eventually blow. I would also recommend you take the rotor out of the water pump and install an all-electric high flow racing pump, or you risk head failure]

Joe
