car BARELY starts!!!!!!!!

My car, after its been sitting over night, takes awile to start. I would crank it, then after the 7th or 8th try,it shakes crazy style, rpm's bounce up and down , then it runs. this only happens in the morning or when its been sitting for a real long time. but after the first start it dosent do it again 'till the next morning. Also the check engine light is on. If anyone has had the same problem reply me. Also, could this be caused by the oxygen censor or maybe i removed my resonator the wrong way?

Definitely not O2 sensor, if the check engine light comes on right after starting the car. The O2 sensor doesn't kick in until the car warms up fully.

If you search this forum, you should be able to find the step by step instructions to checking what the code means, if you have a pre-95 (not OBD-II).

In short:
1) Remove the kick panel (by drivers' foot, where the fuses are)
2) Spot 2 blue wires and black connector
3) Hold black connector with notch facing up, stick one of the blue wires into the top row, second from left
4) turn key to on (2nd position), but don't start the car
5) Record blinks on check engine light, long blinks = 10, short blinks = 1, car may report multiple codes with a short pause between codes.
6) To reset codes, put both blue wires in top row, first and second hole, with key in off position, then proceed to start the car, and shut it off.

You may want to try to reset the codes first, then see what the memory reads, because quite often there may be mutliple codes shown, and some of them may be from a while back and may not relate to your current problem.

I hear rumours that the connectors are there for a 95 to check for the codes yourself, even though the OBD-II system is there.

I wonder if it's true. Too bad I don't have a 95 to verify...
