Tail Light Seperation?
hey i removed my tail lights and was wondering if anyone knew how to seperate the lense from the housing. I have a puddle of water collecting in the bottom of my tail light and would like to get it taken apart and cleaned out. Anyone have a procedure for doing it without cracking anything?

I removed all the wiring and bulbs, then turned the oven to 275. Once it got up to temp, I cut the oven OFF and placed the tail-light assembly into the oven for 8 to 10 minutes. I removed and slowly removed the outer red lense using a screwdriver to release the tabs on the side. It is a little difficult to get started, just take your time. larry

I just recently did this procedure. I took out my taillights (look in locker for a cool picture). Took out the bulbs, then setup a travel hair-drier my mom had (smaller nozzle output) and put it in the hole for a while. Overnight i set up all the lights in front of a box fan, and let them sit there for overnight and the next day. When i put them back in i put a bead of silicone around the outside of the side ones. It looks like water running off the back goes right over the seam, therefore letting water seep in. So far it's been 2 weeks and no moisture has returned.
I would recommend against drilling a hole, my logic being that it is easier access for water to get back in, in the form of humidity. Only use the hole method as a last resort.

Holeless method
Bwan,
Will a hairdryer get access to the area between the lenses on the tailight itself through the light sockets? I have no problem witht he side markers but I do have it on the drivers side tailight. As far as the hole, I thought it stated to fill it with a hot glue or silicone, but then again, I'm getting things all screwed up lately. Randy (Can't remember when I could remember stuff) ii |

Yes, it will get to that area. Just leave it in there long enough.
I didnt read the write-up, so i didnt see the whole hole method. Still, i would keep that as a last resort.

I just had this trouble the other day too
I had that darn water prob in my pass side tailight. I took it out, drilled a tiny hole with the smallest bit I could find on the right edge of the tailight right in front of that little lip. Then I grabbed an air compressor with a rubber pointed end on it and blew air into the light for about 2 mins to get any water I could out. Then I put the light in the sun for about 10 mins and did it again. Bye the 4th time all the water was out. I did realize that leaving the hole open would let water back in, but don't forget that at the same time, it will let it out again too. Granted after time the light will become dirty inside, but that will take quite a bit of time to do. It's been 2 weeks or so now. The hole is still there, the car has been washed 3 times and rained on about 5. No probs yet. If anything shows up, I'll let ya know. This probably didn't help but I figured I'd share with you

I just took the moisture out of both of my taillights yesterday. I used a different method than any described so far. I used a vacuum and a hairdryer together. The vacuum is on the hole for the bulb and the hairdryer blows on low heat on the red/orange plastic.
Had the moisture out in maybe 20 mins. I also cleaned/swapped the gaskets before reassembling the lights. No holes were drilled for this procedure. Hopefully the moisture will stay away.
