Question Best Transimssion Treatment

I just got a '95 with 15K miles on it! This is my third SVX, (R.I.P. 2 '92s) and I'm excited to be back "in the club!"

I want to keep the tranny working as long as possible. I plan on running synthetic ATF and changing it every 15K or so. I'm considering a Level Ten valve body modification, and a parallel cooler. Can ya'll help me with advice?

Who out there has had the Level Ten valve body modification done, and how well has it worked?
How does it shift now?
With that modification, is there still a need for the extra cooler?
How much did Level Ten charge?
Does anyone else have other tips for making my tranny cool and reliable?

Thanks in advance for the help in keeping me and my "Subie Three" happy.

Might want to check out the 5spd

A wise man told me once at a Suby dealership. He said if the SVX is running fine, don't touch it. I believe in his advice.

If you really want to do something about the tranny, I say swap it with a 5 spd.

Significant Technical Input Registered SVX
Level 10 will do the valve body calibration for $600. You can remove the valve body without removing the transmission, but I'd make sure I knew what i was doing or have a shop do the removal/install for you. You will have to ship the valve body to them. It is about the size of a V8 cylinder head.

The L10 mod does shift harder than stock. It is not violent or super hard, but definately firmer. I still think you'd want the extra cooler even with their mod. It pumps a lot more fluid, but unless you check the temps first, I'd recommend an extra cooler.

If I had my tranny die now instead of a year ago as it did, I'd have a 5 speed in my car right now no doubt.

Level 10 does good work, IMO. A few others here have had their trannys rebuilt there, perhaps they will chime in.

subie 2, i just bought mine out of salt lake via ebay, actually american fork, buy chance did you phsycally look at this one? (landrover dealership)

i too have had 2 92's in the past, and HAD to pick up another, its an illness.

If you dont mind what did you pay?

perhaps next year i'll head to seattle for a week and (if works out) have small car, take care of the 5 speed. Hopefully he can put together a tight package that will handle a turbo as well.

For now the best of the best care for our low mile svx's would be the best warrantee available. And of course additional trans. cooler and top lubes.

I didn't see the one in American Fork. I bought mine from Wisconsin for $14,000. I was looking for one with very low miles.

I totally agree that it's an illness. I'm just glad I'm not the only sicko in the world.

Bienvenidos Two!

I think if you'll look closely, you'll find that there are very few '95 and later SVX's with trannie problems. I think I've heard of one. I had my first tranlube replacement at around 100K. Zero problems (so far).

That's comforting to hear. Whats a translube? Do you mean you had your transmission fluid replaced at 100K or was that a rebuild?

Thanks

Whoa, yeah. Just the fluid was replaced - not the whole tranny.

I guess that one is me. My tranny was bad when i bought the car at 90k. Then due to shotty rebuilds, it went a couple times after that. It seems to be goin good now though.
