Post Cog Thread

Well here I am ... a window and a half short and some major suspension problems (maybe tranny too... ) after a mini meet (3 SVXn) To watch some of the COG SCCA Rally in Steamboat springs. Attending were Darrin and Deseri (SP?) UT_SVX Michelle & Chis thndrmtn92svx. And your's truly...

Got off to an early start and decided to travel US 40 to Steamboat springs. As I was coming up on the Strawberry Res. Visitor center turn off, 78 year old driving a white ford explorer decides to run the stop sign and pull out in front of me while I'm putting along at 70 MPH! I tried to miss him by swerving into the oncoming traffic lane (which was clear) and thought that I had made him miss me.... but he clipped my right rear and knocked my rearend out from under me... I lost it and spun 180 degrees and hit a Highway marker sight (East.. US 40) on a 4X4 that jumped up and landed in my rear window after boucing off the roof near my sun roof. (I will have pictures in my locker under Cog meet soon) After everything stoped and before the dust was settled the old guy comes up to me and says " IF you had just stayed in your lane everything would have been fine!" I was a little upset (who, you mitch?) I yelled at him that he should just stay away from me right now and get back into your car.
After the highway patrol left and I was limping onward to Steamboat with the wind whipping through the back windows... I realized the these cars are amazing! Any other car would have flipped and rolled. And here I was zipping along at 90mph on my way to a meet... Well that's the report for now... I'll try to post pictures here in a minute

Lived in the bay area and up in Seattle for 10 years before coming back to Salt Lake 2 years ago. We have what's called the Utah turn here.... That's where the car pulls into the left lane to make a right turn and the right lane to make a left turn... California stops seem to be universal nowdays... But this Ahole was looking right at me when he pulled out... I want him charged with attempted murder!

Napa - I was driving to Pt. Reyes with a San Fran native, he said you could identify the out-of-state-ers by the way they would attempt to stay in their own lane.

Utah turn.... that explains a lot! I think it's catching on, I saw several of those in DC and Boston too.
I didn't really enjoy driving in SLC. I had a pedestrian curse at me because I stopped to let him cross (he was already part way across the street) - wtf?

Unca - you ditched both Napa and me for SLC? How insulting!

On me dumping

Napa and Alycone or how my car is turning out...

Well today I called the Dealership thinking that my car had come back from the body shop... sad news The car is still at the bodyshop waiting for a sunroof gasket... and rear bumper cover...

The axle that was ordered was for the wrong car....

And it may be another two weeks before I get it back..

And I'm starting to hear funny noises from the exhaust system of the Legacy....

other than that life is F.I.N.E.

What's this about you "dumping Napa and Alycone"? Cause you didn't go to the meet this past weekend?

Actually I was referring to his moving to SLC after living in NW and CA, but yeah there's the meet too.

(1.) Four lanes, three of them left-hand turn only.
(2.) Driver in a Geo, far left lane.
(3.) Me in a 26,000 lb truck, far right lane.
(4.) Nobody in the center left turn lane.
(5.) I turn left
(6.) The Geo goes straight.
(7.) He stops.
(8.) I don't.
(9.) He flips me off.
(10.) I smile.

I'm pretty sure the Geo continued going straight after I passed. That would have put him into the middle lane of three oncoming lanes. If being 90 degrees against the flow of traffic didn't clue 'em in, I wonder if being 180 degrees against the flow was enough. ...and he gave me the bird.

Notice that he was the one who stopped though? I guess size does matter.

WOW...

I just got back from the dealer. They did about 1000.00 of work on the left rear (bearing was compressed and the stabilizer was bent badly). But all that will work out... The body work has turned out pretty good. Actually the back of my car looks brand new from the back left looking forward. They checked the wheels and painted the left side (the only side the insurance will cover for the paint). Now I have to have the right side done because the Left Side looked so great. That will be 200 out of my pocket but well worth it. I'm still in the market for a hood that's in good shape. Insurance won't cover it (it wasn't really hurt in the slide) and the body shop tells me that the hail damage would never be completely repaired due to the heat from the engine. I should get it back tomorrow.
