Can someone tell me what's under the hood of this car? I can't seem to find it on R&T or C&D. It was a six cyl. But how many horsies???

Don't worry....he was NOT a problem.

contour sport...

I 'believe' the contour sport is nothing more than an appearance package. Leaving it with just the optional 6cyl contour motor. To get the big motor you have to step up to the contour SVT.

Again this is not a 'for sure' statement. But I am fairly positive I am right.

Anyone care to correct me?

PAUL!

Wink Thanks

I'll have to remember that link. Car Point.

Paul's question. I'm not an engine buff, but smaller bore and higher compression equals more HP? I know that at least higher compression equals more HP so that must be how they did it. ???

Too bad that the Contour here didn't get all the goodies that the Mondeo does in Europe. Man I love those cars! They are BAD! Ever watch the Aussie Super Touring races? Awesome. Just plain awesome. Yep, Joe'd own a Mondeo!

No, but follow me here to see what I've missed.

Bore = 3.24 in x 2.54 cm/in x Pi = 25.86 cm^2 (area of piston face)
Stroke = 3.11 in x 2.54 cm/in = 7.90 cm
Area of piston face x Stroke X 6 cylinders = 25.86 x 7.90 x 6 = 1225.76 cm^3

Did I do that right?

Wink Engine displacment

<<Bore = 3.24 in x 2.54 cm/in x Pi = 25.86 cm^2 (area of piston face)
Stroke = 3.11 in x 2.54 cm/in = 7.90 cm
Area of piston face x Stroke X 6 cylinders = 25.86 x 7.90 x 6 = 1225.76 cm^3

Not quite. The area of a circle is PI x (d/2)^2. You left out the squared .... so

piston face area = (3.11/2 x 2.54)^2 = 53.2 cm^2

displacment then becomes 2.52 Liters or 153.8 in^3

Why more HP I still haven't a clue!

Sheesh

Of course, r^2 - nothing like having a brain bubble in a world-wide forum. Oh, well, if its the worst that happens today, guess things will be hunky-dory.

The additional horsepower must come from the 10.0 vs. 9.7 compression number, if I remember the numbers correctly from the site.

Dont' feel bad

I guess it's the spector of posting to the world. I REALLY had to question my brain on the formula for area of a circle. Is it PI x d^2 or PI x r^2 ?? DUH!

"Damit Jim", I'm and engineer......well I used to be I think....

Well, here in Kentucky, we know that Pie are not squared. Pie are rounded. Cobbler are squared.

Angry why??

why are we talking about the ford (ford = crap) contour on our beloved SVX site. the last thing i want to see is anything about a ford. i had a horrible car wreck in a ford mustang so as far as i am concerned anything they make is crap. i was going about 40 around a slow sweeping corner and they piece of junk just started hydroplaning. the car t-boned against a nice big oak tree and left me paralyzed from the waist down. broke my neck at the C8/T1 Vertabrae. as you can see it did not slow me down too much. slapped a hand control on the good old SVX and simply throw the chair in the back seat and off we go!! Subaru SVX = fun for Leo!! i bet none of you guys can top my hand control mod......ok just kidding but it actually is pretty cool. down is gas and in is brake. works really well at the drag strip. the foot pedals in the car can still be used so my wife can still drive the car. sorry for the long post but i got my reasons to get fired up when i hear the worst of all four letter words.........FORD!! lets keep our language clean in here gentlemen!! just kidding but i do hate ford.
