Yeah, that would be a good one David.

My two Japanese cars are in England or otherwise I would test it myself. The three I have here are all UK models.

Both the Japanese owner manuals, for the SVX and for the Legacy, are more than a little at the mercy of unsatisfactory or downright incorrect translations from the parent Japanese language to English.

It's very possible that both the "re-programming" procedures that are referred to are applicable only to 1 wrong digit being input during programming, and requiring correction before finishing the desired sequence. This is a different scenario from over-writing a full 4 - digit number from square One.

Say your birthday was 25 Nov, and you wanted to use 2511, and you realised you had got to the second digit and mistakenly selected 4. In that scenario both sequences require you to make a change [go to ACC or lock the doors, depending which car] and start afresh.

As you say, it may not be all that clever. Once you have initiated record mode, it may just wait till you have successfully input four digits, with any previous PIN getting wiped in the process.

Re: Keyless entry results

So I tested this on my SVX today.

Previous code erased as battery had been disconnected for a few weeks. Unable to input new personal code, had to input 2222 as the 'new' code and then a different personal code could be input.

With a new personal code entered, I was able to change to another code without inputting 2222. Door open, ignition on and then the required input sequence.

Re: Keyless entry

Thanks Paul.

So the surefire and foolproof way is to assume it needs the memory wiped using 2222?

That's possibly why the manual says disconnecting the battery may lose the PIN code. Disconnection at least leaves it in such a way it will not take a new code.

Good work, that's good to know.

Joe

Re: Keyless entry

Thanks, Paul! Very interesting.

How did it let you know that it didn't accept your first attempt to register a new code? By any chance is it the same response as when you try to enter one of the "unacceptable" codes (1234, 1111, etc.)?

Have you ever had occasion to actually use that keyless feature for real?

And when you've just entered a code, but then realize you remembered your birthday wrong you can go straight to entering a new code.

Well actually David, my birthday is October. That's the only month with a zero in it, so it's necessary to remember it wrong, isn't it?

Re: Keyless entry

Hah! Well did you notice I also used a birth date of 25th of November 2511 in full knowledge that the whole of North America would write this backwards as 1125???
