Thanks for the tip on the sensor. Yes, we conducted the test in the shop. I'm not an AC expert so that is why I had my mechanic perform the procedure.

I'm starting to wonder if my compressor is not functioning properly. It has plenty of charge but the line ( we had gauges on it) going to the firewall isn't cool. The odd part of it is I thought my compressor would be very noisy if it was bad. Possibly not...

Could be the reed valves. What did the gauges read? Should be ~30psi on the low side and ~150-250 on the high side at idle. (Actual readings will vary with ambient temperature, etc...) if you have like 60-80 psi on both sides of the compressor with the compressor running, your compressor is toast, assuming there is a full charge of refrigerant in the system. I've seen them have just enough in the system to keep the low pressure cutoff switch closed, but not enough for the compressor to circulate.

Would help a lot if you posted gauge readings :-) I have a nifty chart that shows you what the different gauge readings mean.

It's probably low on refrigerant, it does slowly leak out over time, an evac and recharge is like $100-$150. AC problems aren't all that easy to troubleshoot without a set of manifold gauges.

See if it gets cold when you are driving, if it's hot out, it won't cool as well with the car just sitting, although it shouldn't all leak out in a year. Look carefully at all your AC lines, there will be an oil stain/dirt accumulation around a leak, due to the oil that's in the refrigerant. Pay close attention to all the unions/fittings, could be a bad O-Ring, I've also seen a few cars with rocks in the condenser, that could be it as well.

Figured I would use this thread. My Compressor will not kick on.
I have done the internal self test, and it appears to all come up normal.
I don't know if I'm just out of juice, or toasted the Compressor last week when the belt went out, {not using the air when it happened}.

Not sure about your "internal self test" but there is some information on this thread and a couple of other resent ones that will get you going in the right direction.

Thanks, I got it. And there is a routine in the "How To's" to do a self test of the system, to find out if all the circuits are working.
Mine turned out to be completely empty of Freon, and it took about 5 seconds of refilling to get it to engage.
I was not aware that the compressor would not kick in without pressure.

Re: Air Conditioning blows hot air

Air is fixed... Turned out to be a bad schrader valve. Replaced and re-filled and all is well. Now, on to replacing the left rear wheel bearing!
